Union Minister Commits to Strengthen West Bengal’s Education Sector
In a significant meeting held in New Delhi, Union Minister for Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, engaged in productive discussions with West Bengal’s Ministers for Higher and Technical Education, Shri Jagannath Chattopadhyay, and for School Education, Shri Dipak Barman. The talks, which centered on the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasized the central government’s dedication to enhancing the education landscape in West Bengal.
Shri Pradhan assured the West Bengal Ministers of the Union Government’s full support for implementing the NEP effectively throughout the state. He highlighted that revitalizing the education sector aligns with the vision of the NEP and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transformative reforms. As part of this initiative, various meetings are being scheduled to outline a detailed roadmap for the state’s educational revival.
Focus on Funding and Expansion
The discussions also delved into several existing schemes administered by the Union Education Ministry that are crucial for West Bengal’s educational enhancement. Among these programs are the Samagra Shiksha initiative, the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA), and the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM POSHAN). A notable resolution from the meeting was to expand the reach of PM SHRI Schools, extending their services to blocks that are not currently beneficiaries, as well as to urban local bodies.
Collaboration for Educational Improvement
Dr. Vineet Joshi, the Secretary of the Department of Higher Education and School Education and Literacy, joined the discussion alongside senior officials from both the Union Ministry of Education and the West Bengal Government. Their collective insights were pivotal in shaping strategies to enhance educational infrastructure and policy implementation, thereby benefiting students across the state.
The commitment to collaborate on educational improvement highlights a proactive approach in addressing challenges within West Bengal’s education sector. This meeting could signal a turning point, where state and central government efforts converge to lay down a solid foundation for the future of education in the region.
