New MoU Enhances Safety for Commercial Vehicle Drivers in India

In a significant initiative aimed at improving the ‘Ease of Commuting’ for commercial vehicle drivers, the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with several Commercial Vehicle Aggregator platforms. The agreement, unveiled at the NHAI Headquarters in New Delhi, is designed to introduce technology-driven solutions, boosting safety and enhancing the overall experience for drivers traversing National Highways.

The MoU was formalized in a ceremony attended by distinguished guests including NHAI Chairman Shri Santosh Kumar Yadav and IHMCL CMD Shri Vishal Chauhan, along with senior officials from both organizations and representatives from five major aggregator platforms. These include WheelsEye Technology India Pvt. Ltd., BlackBuck Ltd., TrucksUp Solutions Pvt. Ltd., TruckSuvidha – Sarvodaya Infotech Pvt. Ltd., and Saffron Navigators Pvt. Ltd. On this occasion, the NHAI also honored commercial drivers with the ‘Vishisht Saarthi’ recognition for their commitment to safe driving practices on the country’s highways.

Technological Integration for Safety

As part of this new collaboration, the aggregator platforms will incorporate the ‘Rajmargyatra App‘ into their services. This app will facilitate timely safety communications, providing drivers with crucial real-time information about accident-prone areas, detours, construction zones, stray cattle sightings, and adverse weather conditions. Additionally, the platforms will encourage drivers to voluntarily register on the app and share metrics related to its usage and feedback.

Driver-Led Reporting Initiative

The initiative will also see the launch of ‘Jan Bhagidari – Driver-Led Reporting,’ promoting active participation among drivers to report issues on National Highways. Through a geo-tagged reporting mechanism, drivers can flag concerns such as potholes, damaged barriers, non-functional streetlights, and unsafe roadside conditions. These reports will form part of the ‘Rajmargyatra’ ecosystem for efficient resolution.

Enhanced Emergency Response Features

To bolster emergency response efforts, the aggregator platforms will feature a ‘Call 1033’ option within their applications. This single-click feature will connect users to the National Highway Helpline, allowing consenting users to share their location for quicker response during emergencies. Users will receive updates about ambulance dispatch status and the nearest hospitals.

Promoting Safe Driving Practices

The MoU also aims to foster responsible driving behaviors by distributing National Highway safety awareness videos. These will cover critical aspects such as avoiding speeding, lane discipline, and proper use of the 1033 helpline during emergencies. Collaborative efforts will allow platforms to engage users with this content via in-app modules and track participation metrics.

Feedback and Grievance Mechanisms

Furthermore, to enhance service standards, aggregator platforms will facilitate structured feedback from drivers regarding toll plaza operations and wayside amenities. They will also assist in addressing FASTag-related issues through defined digital interfaces, ensuring concerns such as incorrect toll deductions and transaction disputes are managed effectively.
