Quinton de Kock Criticizes ICC as England Exits While South Africa and West Indies Stay Behind

Quinton de Kock has voiced his frustration with the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the travel arrangements following the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Reports indicate that the England cricket team is set to return home before both South Africa and the West Indies, despite the latter two teams being eliminated earlier in the tournament. The delays stem from international airspace restrictions linked to ongoing geopolitical tensions, leaving several teams stranded in India while awaiting charter flights organized by the ICC.

Travel Delays for South Africa and West Indies

Both the South African and West Indies cricket teams have faced significant delays in their travel plans after their respective exits from the T20 World Cup. The West Indies were eliminated from the tournament on March 1 after losing to India in the Super 8 stage. South Africa’s journey ended with a semi-final defeat to New Zealand. Since their departures from the tournament, both teams have remained in India, waiting for charter flights to take them home. The West Indies have been in India for about a week, while South Africa has been waiting for three days.

In stark contrast, England, who were knocked out by India in the second semi-final, are scheduled to leave for home just two days after their exit. This situation has raised eyebrows and sparked criticism from players and commentators alike, highlighting perceived inequalities in how teams are treated by the ICC.

De Kock’s Criticism of the ICC

Quinton de Kock took to social media to express his discontent with the ICC’s handling of the travel arrangements. In an Instagram story, he questioned why England was able to leave before South Africa and the West Indies, suggesting that some teams may have more influence within the ICC. He wrote, “Funny @icc, we have heard nothing! Meanwhile, England are leaving before us somehow? @westindies and @proteasmencsa are just in the dark! Strange how different teams have more pull than others.”

De Kock’s comments reflect a growing frustration among players from teams that feel overlooked in favor of more prominent cricketing nations. His remarks have resonated with fans and analysts who are calling for a more equitable approach to travel arrangements in international cricket.

Michael Vaughan’s Support for Fair Treatment

Former England captain Michael Vaughan echoed de Kock’s sentiments, raising similar concerns about the travel situation. He pointed out the disparity in treatment, noting that while England was able to secure a charter flight shortly after their elimination, both the West Indies and South Africa remained stranded in Kolkata. Vaughan stated, “That’s where the power is all wrong… All teams in this situation should be treated the same.” His comments further emphasize the need for the ICC to ensure fair treatment for all teams, regardless of their standing in the cricketing hierarchy.

Expected Departure Plans

According to reports from ESPNCricinfo, England is expected to depart for London on Saturday, while South Africa and the West Indies are likely to leave on Sunday once their charter flights become available. England’s flight will head directly to London, while South Africa will first travel to Johannesburg. The West Indies will then continue their journey to Antigua. However, neither team has confirmed the exact timing of their departures, leaving players and staff in a state of uncertainty.

The frustration within the West Indies camp has been palpable, with head coach Daren Sammy highlighting their prolonged stay in Kolkata by posting “Day 6” on social media. Earlier in the tournament, the Zimbabwe national cricket team also experienced travel delays, underscoring a recurring issue that affects teams after their participation in international competitions.
