Historic Achievement for Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir’s journey to the Ranji Trophy final marks a significant milestone in the region’s cricketing history. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed pride in the team’s accomplishments, noting that many doubted their ability to reach this stage. He highlighted the importance of this moment, stating, “It is a very big moment for us to reach the final because this is the first time J-K has reached the final of the Ranji Trophy.” Abdullah’s comments reflect the excitement surrounding the team as they aim for their first title. He believes that the players’ performances warrant consideration for national selection, stating, “I think it is time our players are invited or asked to play for the country.”

Day 4 Match Highlights

On the field, Jammu and Kashmir showcased their dominance against Karnataka at the Hubli Cricket Ground. After posting a formidable first-innings total of 584, they entered Day 4 with a strong grip on the match. Karnataka resumed their innings at 220/5, relying heavily on their captain, Mayank Agarwal. Agarwal added 30 runs to his overnight score, ultimately finishing with 160 runs off 266 balls, including 21 boundaries. However, Jammu and Kashmir’s disciplined bowling attack proved effective, leading to a series of wickets falling at crucial moments.

Sahil Lotra played a key role by dismissing Kruthik Krishna, while Sunil Kumar removed Vidhyadhar Patil. The turning point came when Auquib Nabi Dar trapped Agarwal in front, shifting the momentum decisively in favor of Jammu and Kashmir. Nabi continued to make an impact by sending Shikhar Shetty back to the pavilion, and Yudhvir Singh Charak wrapped up Karnataka’s innings, dismissing Prasidh Krishna. Karnataka was all out for 293, conceding a significant first-innings deficit of 291 runs.

Jammu and Kashmir’s Second Innings

Jammu and Kashmir’s second innings began with some early setbacks, as Yawer Hassan and first-innings centurion Shubham Pundir were dismissed quickly. Captain Paras Dogra also fell victim to Krishna’s bowling after a brief stay at the crease. However, Abdul Samad stepped up, contributing 32 runs and forming a crucial 73-run partnership with Qamran Iqbal. This partnership helped stabilize the innings as Jammu and Kashmir looked to extend their lead.

By the end of Day 4, Iqbal remained unbeaten on 94 runs off 160 balls, while Sahil Lotra was not out on 16. With their lead extended to 477 runs, Jammu and Kashmir is on the brink of a historic victory, aiming for their first-ever Ranji Trophy title. Abdullah’s presence in Karnataka underscores the significance of this moment for the team and the region, as they prepare for what could be a historic triumph on Saturday.
