Essential Stock Picks for January 23, 2026: Today’s Top Recommendations

According to recent insights from Bajaj Broking Research, investors are advised to consider Gokaldas Exports and Hindustan Unilever as top stock picks for January 23, 2026. The Indian stock market has experienced significant volatility, influenced by global economic factors and foreign institutional selling. The Nifty index has shown bearish trends, while the Bank Nifty has demonstrated relative strength, indicating a mixed outlook for investors.

Market Overview

The Indian stock market has faced increased volatility over the past week, primarily driven by negative global cues and persistent selling by Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs). This downward trend has been exacerbated by concerns regarding U.S. trade tariffs and geopolitical tensions, particularly related to Greenland. As a result, investor sentiment has turned cautious, leading to a limited appetite for risk across equity markets. The Indian rupee has also come under pressure, reaching a record low of 91.74 against the U.S. dollar, further impacting market dynamics.

Despite these challenges, there was a slight easing of geopolitical tensions later in the week, particularly following discussions at the World Economic Forum in Davos. U.S. President Donald Trump announced a framework plan addressing U.S. interests in Greenland, which may reduce the likelihood of additional tariffs on European nations. This development has provided some relief to investors, although the overall market sentiment remains fragile.

Nifty Index Analysis

The Nifty index has formed a significant bearish candle on the weekly chart, currently hovering around the 200-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA) at approximately 25,170 levels. Buying interest has emerged near the critical support zone of 25,000 to 24,800, which aligns with previous breakout levels and the lower band of the rising channel on the weekly timeframe. Following a sharp decline of 1,400 points over just 12 sessions, the index has entered extreme oversold territory, suggesting a potential technical pullback in the near term.

Immediate resistance levels are identified at 25,400 to 25,500. Analysts anticipate some consolidation within the range of 25,500 to 24,800, with a move above 25,500 potentially opening the door for further upside towards the major breakdown area of 25,700. Investors are advised to monitor these levels closely as they may indicate future market movements.

Bank Nifty Performance

In contrast to the Nifty, the Bank Nifty has shown relative strength, continuing to consolidate within the range of 58,700 to 60,400. The 58,700 to 59,000 zone serves as a crucial short-term support level. Although the index briefly dipped to 58,278.6 during the week, it did not close near the lows, indicating underlying buying interest at lower levels. This support area coincides with the lower end of a seven-week consolidation range and the 50-day EMA.

A decisive break below this support zone could lead to accelerated downside movements towards the 57,500 to 58,000 range. Conversely, resistance is noted around the previous all-time high of 60,200 to 60,400, which traders should keep in mind as they navigate the market.

Stock Recommendations

Bajaj Broking Research has highlighted two key stock recommendations for investors. The first is Gokaldas Exports, with a suggested buying range of ₹580 to ₹600. The target price is set at ₹645, indicating a potential return of 9% over a three-month period. Key support levels are identified at ₹570 to ₹560, which coincide with previous bullish gaps and retracement levels.

The second recommendation is Hindustan Unilever, with a buying range of ₹2,360 to ₹2,400. The target price is projected at ₹2,560, offering a potential return of 7.5% within the same timeframe. Support levels are noted at ₹2,300 to ₹2,270, which align with recent trendline support and retracement levels. Both stocks are seen as offering fresh entry opportunities for investors looking to capitalize on potential market rebounds.
