Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Inspects New Yatri Suvidha Kendra at New Delhi Railway Station

In a significant enhancement for travelers, Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, recently inspected the newly constructed Yatri Suvidha Kendra at New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS). This state-of-the-art facility is designed to accommodate around 7,000 passengers simultaneously, greatly improving pre-boarding comfort and efficiency. The minister emphasized that such centers will be developed at other stations across the country to cater to the increasing passenger volume, especially during peak travel seasons.

Modern Amenities for Enhanced Passenger Experience

The Yatri Suvidha Kendra features a well-planned layout divided into three distinct zones to facilitate smooth passenger movement. The Ticketing area spans 2,860 square meters, while the Post Ticketing and Pre Ticketing areas cover 1,150 square meters and 1,218 square meters, respectively. This strategic separation aims to minimize congestion and enhance the overall comfort of passengers entering the terminal. The facility is equipped with 22 modern ticketing counters and 25 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs), ensuring efficient ticketing services for travelers.

Additionally, the center has a seating capacity for 200 passengers and is fitted with 18 High Volume Low Speed (HVLS) fans to maintain a comfortable environment. A dedicated toilet block covering 652 square meters, along with an RO-based drinking water system, further emphasizes the commitment to passenger convenience and sanitation.

Safety and Security Features

Safety and security are paramount at the Yatri Suvidha Kendra. The facility boasts a robust passenger announcement system with 24 speakers, three LED electronic train information displays, and seven modern fire-fighting units. To ensure passenger safety, the center is monitored by 18 CCTV cameras, and equipped with five luggage scanners and five Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMD). These measures are designed to provide a secure environment for all travelers.

The Northern Railway has successfully navigated various challenges during the construction of the Kendra, including the demolition and relocation of existing structures and utilities. This meticulous planning ensured that daily operations at the station continued without disruption.

Infrastructure Upgrades and Future Plans

In conjunction with the Yatri Suvidha Kendra, significant infrastructure upgrades have been implemented, including the extension of Foot Over Bridge 1 (FOB 1). This extension allows passengers disembarking from trains at NDLS to exit directly towards the Metro Station, thereby enhancing multimodal connectivity and alleviating platform congestion.

During the inspection, Minister Vaishnaw was accompanied by senior officials, including Shri Satish Kumar, Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board, and Shri Ashok Kumar Verma, General Manager of Northern Railway. They provided a comprehensive briefing on the facility’s planning and execution, highlighting the Railway Ministry’s dedication to modernizing infrastructure and ensuring world-class amenities for commuters. The successful completion of the Yatri Suvidha Kendra marks a significant step towards improving the travel experience for millions of passengers.
