Atal Innovation Mission and IFCCI Collaborate to Expand Atal Tinkering Labs in India
The Indo-French Chamber of Commerce & Industry (IFCCI) and the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), part of the NITI Aayog under the Government of India, have taken a significant step towards enhancing educational collaboration. On September 19, 2025, they signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) aimed at promoting STEM education and digital literacy in India. The event, held at the Embassy of France in New Delhi, gathered over 100 participants, including corporate leaders, diplomats, and representatives from various sectors, all focused on fostering sustainable development through cross-sectoral partnerships.
Significance of the Partnership
The signing of the SoI represents a pivotal moment in the effort to enhance educational infrastructure and curriculum delivery in India. By leveraging IFCCI’s extensive network of Indo-French corporate partners, the initiative seeks to mobilize corporate social responsibility (CSR) resources to support schools and underserved communities. This partnership aims to implement Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) programs, which encourage innovation and hands-on learning among students. The collaboration is designed to create long-term, sustainable impacts in education, particularly in areas lacking adequate resources.
Event Highlights and Future Vision
The ceremony featured remarks from H.E. Mr. Thierry Mathou, the French Ambassador to India, who praised IFCCI’s role in fostering impactful partnerships for social development. He emphasized the importance of the IFCCI CSR Connect Seminar as a platform for enhancing Indo-French cooperation in social impact initiatives. Looking ahead, 2026 is poised to be a landmark year, as both the Prime Minister of India and the President of France have declared it the India-France Year of Innovation. This initiative aims to extend beyond technology, focusing on social progress as a vital aspect of the bilateral relationship.
Current Initiatives and Impact
Since its inception in 2023, the IFCCI CSR Department has successfully executed 86 projects, reaching over 15,000 individuals across India. These initiatives encompass various thematic areas, including education, healthcare, and clean energy, all aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The department actively assists member companies in planning and executing impactful CSR initiatives, thereby enhancing their contributions to social development.
Deepak Bagla, Mission Director of AIM, highlighted the thriving culture of innovation across India, noting that AIM has impacted over 11 million student entrepreneurs. He expressed optimism that the new partnership with IFCCI would further expand access to innovation-driven learning, benefiting students and young entrepreneurs nationwide.
Focus on Innovation and Education
During the signing ceremony, representatives from both IFCCI and AIM underscored the necessity of fostering a culture of innovation from an early age. The collaboration aims to enhance access to technology-enabled education, promote critical thinking, and build capacity among teachers and students in government schools. Ms. Payal S. Kanwar, Director General of IFCCI, stated that this partnership is a significant step towards equipping India’s youth with essential 21st-century skills. The initiative will also include teacher training, innovation challenges, and the establishment of a sustainable learning ecosystem.
