Raksha Mantri Launches Cleanliness Drive Under Swachhotsav 2025

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh spearheaded a significant cleanliness initiative titled โEk Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saathโ on September 25, 2025, at the Army Headquarters Unit Run Canteen. This event was part of the broader Swachhotsav 2025 campaign, which runs from September 17 to October 2, 2025, under the โSwachhata Hi Sevaโ initiative by the Ministry of Defence. The campaign emphasizes the importance of collective action in fostering a clean, green, and healthy environment, aligning with the festive spirit of the nation and the vision of a cleaner India.
Commitment to Cleanliness
During the event, Shri Rajnath Singh reaffirmed his dedication to cleanliness by taking the โSwachhata Sankalpโ. He recognized the efforts of Safai Mitras, who play a crucial role in maintaining sanitation, and participated in a tree-planting initiative aimed at promoting an eco-friendly, zero-waste environment. In a symbolic act, he flagged off a Safai Run involving 100 NCC cadets, underscoring the importance of youth engagement in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, a nationwide campaign for cleanliness.
Cleanliness as a Way of Life
Addressing attendees, the Raksha Mantri emphasized that cleanliness transcends mere tidiness; it embodies a โway of lifeโ that reflects discipline and responsibility. He articulated that maintaining clean surroundings is vital for health, mental well-being, and inner peace, while neglecting cleanliness can lead to the spread of disease and negativity. Drawing from Indiaโs rich traditions, he noted that cleanliness has long been regarded as a hallmark of a civilized society.
Collective Responsibility for a Cleaner India
Shri Rajnath Singh highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modiโs vision of transforming cleanliness into a mass movement, urging everyone to take responsibility for their surroundings. The Ministry of Defence is actively contributing to this vision through various initiatives, including collective cleanliness drives and waste-to-wealth programs. The aim is to transform military camps and offices into exemplary models of cleanliness.
Achievements and Future Goals
The Raksha Mantri expressed pride in the fact that all military camps are now open-defecation free, showcasing the discipline of the armed forces and the commitment of the civilian workforce. He stressed that a healthy, clean, and conscious society is fundamental to national security. He called on all citizens to adopt cleanliness as a national duty, inspiring others to contribute to a cleaner, healthier, and more developed India. The initiative saw participation from high-ranking officials, including Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, among others, reflecting a united effort towards achieving these goals.
