UPSC Announces Final Result of Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant)

Based on the results of the written portion of the Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandants) Examination, 2024, conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on August 4, 2024, a total of 459 candidates have been recommended for appointment as Assistant Commandants in various Central Armed Police Forces. The selection process included interviews for the Personality Test held from May 5 to June 5, 2025. The candidates will be appointed based on merit and availability of vacancies, subject to the outcomes of pending legal proceedings.
Candidate Breakdown and Recommendations
The UPSC has recommended a total of 459 candidates for appointment across different categories. The breakdown of these candidates is as follows: 160 from the General category (including 7 Ex-Servicemen), 54 from the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), 127 from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) (including 3 Ex-Servicemen), 80 from the Scheduled Castes (SC) (including 3 Ex-Servicemen), and 38 from the Scheduled Tribes (ST). This diverse representation reflects the commission’s commitment to inclusivity in the recruitment process.
It is important to note that the final selection and appointment of these candidates are contingent upon the resolution of several legal matters. Specifically, the outcomes of Writ Petition (Civil) No. 5877/2022 and other related petitions pending before the Delhi High Court will influence the final appointments. Additionally, one candidate’s result has been withheld as per court directives.
Vacancies and Services Allocation
The appointments will be made according to the number of vacancies reported by the government and the candidates’ fulfillment of all eligibility criteria. The allocation of candidates to various services will be based on their merit and the preferences they indicated during the application process. The total number of vacancies reported for different services includes 120 for the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), 186 for the Border Security Force (BSF), 67 for the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), 42 for the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and 100 for the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
The total number of vacancies across all categories is 515, which includes a 10% reservation for Ex-Servicemen. This structured approach ensures that the recruitment process is fair and transparent, adhering to the guidelines set forth by the UPSC.
Provisional Candidature and Reserve List
Among the recommended candidates, the candidature of 97 individuals is provisional, pending further verification and fulfillment of eligibility requirements. The UPSC is also maintaining a consolidated Reserve List of 112 candidates, ranked in order of merit, who may be considered for appointment if any of the recommended candidates are unable to fulfill their obligations.
This reserve list serves as a contingency plan, ensuring that the vacancies can be filled promptly and efficiently. The UPSC emphasizes the importance of maintaining a robust recruitment process to uphold the standards of the Central Armed Police Forces.
