Far Cry 4 Receives Free 60 FPS Update for PS5 and Xbox Series S/X

Far Cry 4, the popular open-world first-person shooter developed by Ubisoft, has received a significant update a decade after its initial launch. The new patch enhances the game’s performance on current-generation consoles, allowing it to run at 60 frames per second (fps) on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X. This update not only improves gameplay but also coincides with the game’s addition to Xbox Game Pass, making it more accessible to players.

Enhanced Performance with Patch 1.08

The recently released Patch 1.08 is a free update that elevates Far Cry 4’s performance to 60fps on current-generation consoles. Players on PS5 were among the first to notice the update, sharing their excitement online before Ubisoft officially confirmed it. In a blog post, the company stated, โ€œFar Cry 4 will now run at 60 frames per second on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PS5 Pro, thanks to a free update deployed today.โ€ This enhancement allows players to experience the game’s stunning visuals and chaotic gameplay in a smoother manner, whether they are engaging in aerial assaults or charging into battle atop an elephant.

The update is particularly significant as it lifts the previous 30fps cap that limited performance on modern consoles. With this patch, players can fully immerse themselves in the game’s vibrant Himalayan setting, enjoying a more fluid gaming experience. The timing of the update is strategic, as it coincides with Far Cry 4’s availability on Xbox Game Pass starting April 30, further increasing its appeal to gamers.

Discounts and Promotions

In addition to the performance upgrade, Ubisoft has announced that Far Cry 4 will be available at discounted prices across various platforms. The game will see substantial price reductions on the PlayStation Store from April 23 to May 7, on Xbox from April 20 to May 5, and on the Ubisoft Store from April 29 to May 20. Currently, on the PlayStation Store, the game is priced at Rs. 299, reflecting an impressive 85 percent discount from its original retail price of Rs. 1,999. Furthermore, PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members can access the game for free as part of the Game Catalog.

This promotional strategy not only makes the game more accessible to a wider audience but also encourages both new and returning players to dive into the action. Ubisoft’s commitment to enhancing older titles with performance updates and discounts demonstrates its dedication to maintaining player engagement and satisfaction.

Ubisoft’s Commitment to Legacy Titles

The release of the 60fps patch for Far Cry 4 is part of a broader trend at Ubisoft, which has previously updated several of its older titles to enhance their performance on modern consoles. Last November, the company rolled out a similar free update for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, and prior to that, it released 60fps patches for Assassin’s Creed Origins and Odyssey. In 2023, Far Cry 5 also received a performance upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.

Far Cry 4, set in the fictional Himalayan region of Kyrat, follows the story of Ajay Ghale, who returns to his homeland amidst a civil war and confronts the tyrannical regime of dictator Pagan Min. The game’s rich narrative and engaging gameplay have contributed to its lasting popularity, making these updates particularly valuable for both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
