WHO Champions Gender Equality for Women in Health

On March 8, 2025, the World Health Organization (WHO) will celebrate International Women’s Day under the theme “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. In the Eastern Mediterranean Region, women earn an average of 28% less than their male colleagues. Furthermore, they are less likely to secure full-time positions, which limits their career advancement and financial stability. This inequity persists despite women’s substantial contributions to health service delivery, leadership, and policy development.
The WHO emphasizes the need to address these systemic barriers to gender equality. As the global community recognizes the achievements of women, it is crucial to confront the ongoing challenges they face, such as unequal pay and obstacles to full-time employment. The organization advocates for transformative policies that can create a more equitable and resilient health workforce, ensuring that women are supported and empowered in their roles.
