Union Health Minister Enhances Najafgarh Healthcare

Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda visited the Rural Health Training Center (RHTC) in Najafgarh and the Ayushman Arogya Mandir (AAM) in Palam today, accompanied by local Members of Parliament Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and Kamaljeet Sehrawat. During his visit, Nadda engaged with patients and medical staff, planted saplings as part of the โ€œEk Ped Maa ke Naamโ€ initiative, and reviewed the progress of healthcare services in the region.

Commitment to Healthcare Improvement

During his visit, Minister Nadda emphasized the importance of enhancing healthcare services in Najafgarh. He reviewed the progress report of the RHTC and approved the continuation of Primary Health Centers (PHCs) at Najafgarh, Ujwa, and Palam under the Government of India. He directed that the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) and Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) certifications be completed within three months, and he set a timeline for the full operationalization of the RHTC hospital within six months. Nadda highlighted the RHTC’s role as a model for integrated healthcare services, which includes primary, secondary, AYUSH, and training services, assuring that the Centre would support the enhancement of health facilities at the institute.

RHTC: A Model for Integrated Healthcare

The Rural Health Training Center (RHTC) in Najafgarh has been a cornerstone of primary and secondary healthcare since its establishment in 1937. It has evolved over the years to include three campuses: Najafgarh, Palam, and Ujwa. The RHTC is currently being developed into a comprehensive integrated center that will provide primary, secondary, AYUSH, and skill development services, with plans for tertiary care in the future. This transformation aims to significantly improve healthcare services in Najafgarh, which has already seen the introduction of secondary healthcare services. The Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are set to receive NQAS accreditation, reinforcing the government’s commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare services to the community.

Advancements in Healthcare Infrastructure

To bridge the gap between primary and tertiary healthcare, the RHTC Hospital is being developed as a 183-bedded general hospital. This facility will provide a unique healthcare setting where primary, secondary, and AYUSH services are available on the same campus. The hospital aims to deliver quality medical treatment, emergency care, and specialized healthcare interventions, ensuring that residents have access to advanced medical facilities closer to home. Additionally, the RHTC is adopting IT-enabled healthcare solutions under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) to create a digitally empowered healthcare ecosystem, enhancing efficiency and patient-centric care.

Focus on Skill Development and Training

Significant efforts are underway to bolster skill development and training within the healthcare sector. The existing Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) School at RHTC will be upgraded to produce world-class frontline healthcare workers. Since its inception in 1985, the ANM course has expanded from 20 students per batch to 44 students annually, with a total of 88 students enrolled at any given time. The RHTC conducts an online entrance exam each year for prospective students, reflecting the growing interest in healthcare careers. The curriculum mandates rural community postings, allowing nursing interns to gain practical experience in a real-world setting. Currently, 19 colleges with 2,821 students are provided internship opportunities at RHTC and its community sub-centers.

The strengthening of primary, secondary, and AYUSH services at the Najafgarh campus demonstrates the Government of India’s commitment to public health and community well-being. By integrating allopathic facilities with indigenous AYUSH systems and skill development programs, the initiative aims to enhance healthcare accessibility, improve patient outcomes, and cultivate a robust medical workforce for the future. These developments are expected to significantly improve healthcare availability for residents in Najafgarh and surrounding districts in Delhi and Haryana.
