Sơn Đoòng Cave was first discovered in 1991 by a local man named Hồ Khanh, but it was not until 2009 that a team of British cavers, led by Howard Limbert, conducted a detailed exploration of the cave. The explorations revealed that Sơn Đoòng Cave is the largest known cave passage by volume, surpassing the previous record held by Deer Cave in Malaysia.
Geological Features
Sơn Đoòng Cave is known for its colossal size and unique geological formations. The cave is estimated to be over 5 million years old and is formed from limestone that was eroded by the Rao Thuong River.
