Balraj Sahni (1 May 1913 – 13 April 1973), an actor, writer, author, screenwriter, stage actor, film actor, and autobiographer. He is best known for Dharti Ke Lal (1946), Do Bigha Zameen (1953), Kabuliwala (1961), and Garam Hawa (1973). He was born on 1 May 1913 in Rawalpindi, Punjab, Pakistan.

Nirmala Deshpande (19 October 1929 – 1 May 2008) was an Indian social activist who embraced Gandhian philosophy. She was awarded Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award of India in 2006. She devoted her adult life to the promotion of communal harmony and service to women, tribal people, and the dispossessed in India. She died on 1 May 2008 at the age of 78.
