Amar Shahid Bandhu Singh (1 May 1833 – 12 August 1858), a freedom fighter who fight against Britishers. Bandhu Singh was born on 1 May 1833 in a Kshatriya family of Babu Shiv Prasad Singh of Dumari Riyasat, Gorakhpur.

Mahamaya Prasad Sinha (1 May 1909 – 1987) was an Indian politician. He was the fifth Chief Minister of Bihar from March 1967 to January 1968, the first non-congress Government in Bihar. He belongs to the Jan Kranti Dal party. Sinha was born on 1 May 1909 in Siwan district, Bihar.

Balraj Sahni (1 May 1913 – 13 April 1973), an actor, writer, author, screenwriter, stage actor, film actor, and autobiographer. He is best known for Dharti Ke Lal (1946), Do Bigha Zameen (1953), Kabuliwala (1961), and Garam Hawa (1973). He was born on 1 May 1913 in Rawalpindi, Punjab, Pakistan.

Madhu Limaye (1 May 1922 – 1995), an Indian socialist essayist and activist, particularly active in the 1970s. He mainly writes on Constitutional issues, where he set himself the task of defending the Constitution in the media. He was born in Pune on 1 May 1922.

Anand Gopal Mahindra, an Indian billionaire businessman, and the chairman of Mahindra Group. He is the grandson of Jagdish Chandra Mahindra, co-founder of Mahindra. Anand net worth US$1.8 billion in April 2021. He is also an alumnus of Harvard University and Harvard Business School. He was given the Padma Bhushan Award. Anand was born on 1 May 1955 in Bombay, India.

Ajay Thakur, an Indian professional Kabaddi player and the former captain of the Indian National Kabaddi Team. He was part of the national teams that won the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup and gold medal at the 2014 Asian Games. Ajay is also known with names Ice Man and King of kabaddi He also got awarded with Padma Shri and Arjuna Award in 2019. He was born on 1 May 1986 in Dabhota village of Nalagarh, Himachal Pradesh.

Anushka Sharma, an Indian actress, and producer, works in Hindi films. She is one of the most popular and highest-paid actresses in India. She made her acting debut in Aditya Chopra’s romantic drama Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008) Anushka Sharma was born on 1 May 1988 in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. Anushka is the wife of star cricketer Virat Kohli. She was born on 1 May 1988 in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

Death Anniversary

1 May in Indian history is observed as the death anniversary of the following personalities:

Shobha (23 September 1962 – 1 May 1980), an Indian actress best known for her work in Malayalam and Tamil films. She won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in the 1979 Tamil film Pasi. She died on 1 May 1980 (aged 17) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

Nirmala Deshpande (19 October 1929 – 1 May 2008) was an Indian social activist who embraced Gandhian philosophy. She was awarded Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award of India in 2006. She devoted her adult life to the promotion of communal harmony and service to women, tribal people, and the dispossessed in India. She died on 1 May 2008 at the age of 78.

David Livingstone (19 March 1813 – 1 May 1873), a Scottish physician, Congregationalist, and pioneer Christian missionary with the London Missionary Society, an explorer in Africa, and one of the most popular British heroes of the late 19th-century Victorian era. He died on 1 May 1873 at the age of 60.
