WaveX and IIT Delhi Team Up to Boost Media Innovation

In a significant move to enhance innovation in India’s media and entertainment sectors, WaveX, the startup accelerator led by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, has partnered with the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT) at IIT Delhi. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed during an event at Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi, where key representatives from both organizations discussed their commitment to nurturing entrepreneurship in media, broadcasting, and communication technologies.

The signing ceremony was attended by Shri Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, who emphasized the importance of this collaboration. Through this agreement, FITT will play a pivotal role in implementing and expanding the WaveX Programme, which seeks to foster a vibrant ecosystem for media and entertainment startups across India.

Fostering Innovation through Collaboration

Under this partnership, FITT aims to provide essential operational support for the establishment of incubation centers nationwide. This includes offering strategic guidance on incubator setups and facilitating collaborations with other IITs and innovation hubs. Additionally, startups will benefit from access to research facilities, mentorship, intellectual property assistance, and targeted capacity-building initiatives.

WaveX, in return, will supply financial backing and policy guidance, ensuring that the programme gains national visibility. The overarching goal is to create a supportive environment for startups, equipping them with necessary resources such as funding, mentorship, infrastructure, and access to investors and global markets.

A Vision for the Future

During the MoU signing, Shri Jaju remarked, “WaveX is envisioned as a national catalyst for innovation in media and entertainment technologies. We aim to accelerate startups that are pioneering technological advancements within the media industry, alongside innovators developing new applications for existing technology platforms.”

Dr. Nikhil Agarwal, Managing Director of FITT, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership. He stated, “This collaboration with WaveX highlights FITT’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship in emerging technology sectors. By uniting policy support, academic excellence, and industry engagement, we’re establishing a robust national incubation platform aimed at supporting startups at the convergence of media, technology, and innovation.”
