VICE ADMIRAL PRIYANTHA PERERA COMMANDER OF THE SRI LANKA NAVY VISIT TO INDIA

VA Adm Priyantha Perera, Commander of the Navy of Sri Lanka is on a five-day official visit to India from 23 – 27 May 23. During the visit, VA Adm Priyantha Perera will preside over the 23 Spring Term Passage Parade at Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala.

Vadm Priyantha Perera invited Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of Naval Staff on May 24, 23 in New Delhi and held discussions on cooperation mechanisms to ensure peace and security in the region. He was received with a ceremonial honor guard at the South Block Lawns. Earlier in the day he paid his respects to the brave at the National War Memorial.

 

India and Sri Lanka share a close and historically significant relationship, and both countries have worked hard to strengthen the existing relationship. India and Sri Lanka have improved their interactions in the maritime sector substantially in accordance with India’s ‘Neighborhood Policy First’ and the maritime perspective of ‘Security and Growth for All in the Region’.

 

 

The Indian Navy cooperates with the Sri Lanka Navy through various initiatives, which include operational interactions such as SLINEX bilateral naval exercise, hydrography, training and other seaways. In addition, both navies’ warships make regular calls at each other’s ports.

The existing visit of the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy it is symbolic of the increased naval cooperation between the two navies and renewed the sense of commitment of two friendly maritime neighbors to enhance security and address maritime challenges in the IOR.
