V. Shantaram Biopic Starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tamannaah Bhatia Delayed to 2027
In December, the highly anticipated biopic of legendary filmmaker V. Shantaram was officially announced, with actor Siddhant Chaturvedi, known for his role in Dhadak 2, taking on the lead role. Joining him is Tamannaah Bhatia, who will portray Shantaram’s second wife, actress Jayashree. Produced by Rahul Kiran Shantaram, Subhash Kale, and Sarita Ashwin Varde, the film was initially set to begin shooting in April 2026. However, four months later, the project has yet to commence, sparking speculation about its potential shelving.
Production Timeline Adjustments
In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, director Abhijeet Shirish Deshpande addressed concerns regarding the film’s production status. He confirmed that the V. Shantaram biopic is still very much in the works, but the shooting schedule has been pushed back to 2027. “We had initially planned an April shoot and planned to go indoors after rains. But we were delayed by two months, and then the whole schedule went haywire,” Deshpande explained. He added that the team is now aiming for a fresh start next year, with plans to include additional prominent names in the cast alongside Siddhant and Tamannaah.
The revised shooting schedule aims to prioritize outdoor sequences first, utilizing the monsoon period for interior shoots. The filmmakers are optimistic about this new timeline, which they believe will allow for a more organized production process.
Celebrating Shantaram’s Legacy
The film will chronicle V. Shantaram’s remarkable journey through the evolution of Indian cinema, from the silent era to the introduction of sound and color. Shantaram is celebrated for directing iconic films in both Hindi and Marathi, including classics such as Do Aankhen Barah Haath (1957), Dr. Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani (1946), Amar Bhoopali (1951), and Pinjara (1971).
For Siddhant Chaturvedi, this project marks his first biographical role, and he expressed his enthusiasm for portraying the visionary filmmaker. During the announcement, he described the opportunity as one of the greatest honors of his life. “The more I read about his journey, the more humbled I felt. He wasn’t just a pioneer of Indian and global cinema, he was a visionary who kept pushing forward no matter the obstacles,” Chaturvedi shared. He emphasized the transformative experience of stepping into Shantaram’s world, stating, “His life moved me deeply and reminded me of the power of perseverance. It’s a lesson I hope to hold close, both in my work and in every moment of my life.”
