Shiv Prasaad Singh (19 August 1928 – 28 September 1998) was an Indian writer, university professor, and scholar of the Hindi language.

Life and Career

Shiv Prasaad Singh was born on 19 August 1928 in Jalalpur, Benares district, United Provinces. His schooling was done at Uday Pratap College, Benares. He continued his education at Benares Hindu University from where he obtained his BA, MA, and PhD degrees. He started his career as a lecturer at Banaras Hindu University in 1953 and retired from there as a professor in 1988.

After completing his education, Shiv Prasaad Singh began his career as a high school teacher while continuing to write in his spare time. His literary works mainly focused on themes of rural life, social issues, and human emotions. He gained recognition for his unique storytelling style, which combined elements of realism with poetic imagery. Over the years, he published several novels, short story collections, and poetry anthologies, earning praise from both readers and critics alike.

He was formerly a professor of Hindi literature at Benares Hindu University. He received the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award in 1990 for his novel Neela Chand.
