Union Health Minister Enhances Healthcare in Assam
On a significant visit to Assam, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, inaugurated several key healthcare initiatives aimed at improving medical services in the region. His tour included visits to prominent healthcare facilities such as the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH), Mangaldai District Civil Hospital, and AIIMS Guwahati. The minister’s efforts focus on enhancing healthcare access and quality for the people of Assam, particularly in mental health and critical care services.
Inauguration of New Facilities at LGBRIMH
During his visit to the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health in Tezpur, Shri Nadda inaugurated a new Library and Informatics Centre. This facility aims to support the educational and research needs of the institute. The minister expressed his satisfaction with the growth of LGBRIMH and highlighted the importance of expanding its capabilities. He emphasized the need for more super specialty departments to serve the Northeast region effectively.
The establishment of these departments will not only enhance the quality of mental health services but also cater to the diverse healthcare needs of the population. Shri Nadda’s commitment to improving mental health services reflects a broader national agenda to address mental health issues comprehensively. His visit included a Board of Governors meeting at LGBRIMH, where he was accompanied by Assam’s Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Health Minister, Shri Ashok Singhal. Foundation Stone for Critical Care Block in Mangaldai
Shri Nadda’s next stop was the Mangaldai District Civil Hospital in Darrang district, where he laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art 50-bedded Critical Care Block (CCB). This project, funded with Rs 23.75 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM ABHIM), aims to significantly enhance access to advanced healthcare services in Assam.
The new Critical Care Block will provide essential services for patients requiring intensive medical care, thus reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for treatment. This initiative is particularly crucial for rural populations who often face barriers in accessing quality healthcare. Shri Nadda remarked on the importance of such facilities in improving health outcomes and ensuring that residents receive timely and effective medical attention. The establishment of the CCB is a step towards strengthening the healthcare infrastructure in Assam and addressing the critical care needs of the community.
Advancements in Cancer Care Services
During his visit to Darrang, Shri Nadda also inspected ongoing treatments at the local cancer hospital and a cancer care project supported by Tata Trusts. He noted the significant changes in cancer treatment accessibility for the residents of Darrang. Previously, many patients had to travel out of state for treatment, which posed financial and logistical challenges. Now, with the establishment of local facilities, patients can receive necessary care closer to home.
This development is part of a broader initiative to enhance cancer care services across the country. Concluding his tour, Shri Nadda visited AIIMS Guwahati to review the progress of ongoing projects at the institute. He was accompanied by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and other senior officials. During the visit, the minister planted a sapling on the campus, symbolizing growth and commitment to health and wellness in the region.
AIIMS Guwahati is a crucial institution in the Northeast, providing advanced medical education and healthcare services. Shri Nadda’s inspection aimed to ensure that the institute meets its objectives and serves the community effectively.
