UIDAI Enhances Aadhaar App with 300 New Partners for Offline Verification
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced a significant boost to the Aadhaar App, with the onboarding of 300 Offline Verification Seeking Entities (OVSEs) since its launch in January. This development is set to vastly improve the adoption of Aadhaar-based offline verification across diverse sectors including hospitality, healthcare, education, and more.
Empowering Residents and Service Providers
This milestone reflects the successful implementation of a secure, consent-driven, and paperless verification process through the Aadhaar offline verification mechanism. It aims to empower both service providers and residents by enhancing service accessibility. The onboarding of these OVSE partners highlights the increasing trust in Aadhaar-enabled digital verification systems, which place a strong emphasis on user privacy and control. The approach follows the principles laid out in the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act.
Aadhaar App Gains Popularity
As the Aadhaar App continues to resonate with users, it has seen nearly 7.5 crore downloads to date. This uptick underscores its pivotal role as a digital interface between UIDAI and residents, making a slew of Aadhaar-related services easily accessible via smartphones. The app has facilitated major updates, including over 8.6 million mobile number changes, 2.2 million address modifications, and 4.0 million email updates—all of which can be handled without the need to visit a physical center.
Enhancing Security Features
In addition to service updates, the app has recorded 46 million transactions involving biometric lock and unlock features. This indicates a growing awareness among users about the importance of biometric security, thus giving them greater control over their data. Furthermore, the Aadhaar app allows users to perform 361,000 lock and unlock transactions, reinforcing the commitment to user privacy.
Aligning with Digital India Vision
These developments align with the Government of India’s Digital India initiative, aiming to improve public service accessibility through secure and technology-driven means. The overall goal is to enhance living standards in a tech-savvy, Viksit Bharat, benefiting countless residents by making essential services more reachable.
As UIDAI strengthens the digital identity landscape, the Aadhaar App stands out as a key facilitator in ensuring privacy-oriented and user-friendly public services.
