INS Tarkash Completes Significant Port Call in Mauritius

INS Tarkash wrapped up an emotionally impactful visit to the Port Louis, Mauritius, on November 3, 2026. The ship’s commanding officer held important discussions with Mrs. Kan Oye Fong, the Secretary of Home Affairs, and Mr. Rampersad Sooroojebally, the Commissioner of Police. The Commissioner of Police also visited the ship, taking the opportunity to engage with the crew members.

During its stay, INS Tarkash celebrated Aapravasi Diwas 2026 with a cultural exchange on board, which featured Dr. Mahend Gungapersad, the Minister of Education and Human Resource from the Government of Mauritius, as the Guest of Honour. Esteemed guests, including HE Shri Anurag Srivastava, the High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, were present to commemorate this significant occasion. The ship participated in activities honoring the **192nd Aapravasi Diwas** on November 2, 2026, bringing the spirit of camaraderie and cultural celebration to the forefront.

Strengthening Maritime Relations

In addition to cultural exchanges, INS Tarkash and its crew contributed to the local community by conducting cross-training with Mauritius Coast Guard personnel. They also engaged in outreach at the Hospice Saint Jean de Dieu, building bridges through service and training. These activities not only advanced operational cooperation but also reinforced the bonds between the Indian Navy and the Mauritian authorities.

Joint Operations and Future Deployment

Following a successful port call, INS Tarkash participated in a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with the CGS Valiant. The ship collaborated with the Mauritius Coast Guard for joint EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone) surveillance, facilitated by a Dornier aircraft. These operations highlight the commitment of both countries to maritime security and cooperative efforts in the region.

With the completion of this fruitful port call, INS Tarkash has embarked on the next phase of its operational deployment, further enhancing the longstanding maritime partnership and strengthening the bilateral ties between India and Mauritius.
