TRAI Unveils New Network Anubhav Platform for Consumers

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has officially launched the Network Anubhav Platform, an innovative geospatial and analytical dashboard designed to enhance the accessibility of user test data and independent drive test data. This platform aims to empower consumers, service providers, and TRAI itself by providing insights on various network performance parameters derived from the data collected through TRAI’s MySpeed and MyCall applications.

Exploring the Geo-Spatial Maps

A standout feature of this platform is the geo-spatial maps, which enable consumers to:

  • Examine test results sorted by cellular or fixed broadband categories, further differentiated by service provider and technology, based on key parameters such as download and upload speeds.
  • Navigate the interactive map to investigate the geographical distribution of user-generated test results.
  • Utilize filters, legends, supporting tables, and downloadable reports to better understand the displayed data.

The platform not only allows users to view percentile values from local tests but also summarizes them as follows:

  • P50 (median speed): Indicates the speed surpassed by 50% of the tests.
  • P80 (for Mobile Broadband): Denotes 80% of the tests meeting or exceeding this speed.
  • P90 (for Fixed Broadband): Represents the speed met or exceeded by 90% of the tests.

While the values presented are based solely on user submissions and do not represent a comprehensive evaluation based on standard methodologies, they serve as a crucial reference for understanding user experiences across varying locales.

Advantages for Consumers

The Network Anubhav Platform allows consumers to report spam and monitor internet speeds conveniently. Aggregated results from TRAI’s applications, along with insights from independent drive tests, are featured prominently on the dashboard, enabling users to access location-specific data on tests conducted by their peers.

Insights for Telecom Service Providers

With a secure interface, telecom service providers can delve into data regarding call quality, coverage, and internet performance collected from consumer tests. This information, which includes specifics like location, date, time, and performance metrics, assists TSPs in identifying areas requiring optimization.

TRAI can leverage these aggregated insights to facilitate evidence-based monitoring of consumer experiences, further influencing efforts to enhance network performance.

MySpeed SDK and DND Services

The new MySpeed SDK allows third-party applications to integrate connectivity measurement functionalities, potentially broadening participation and enriching the data pool contributing to the platform. Additionally, the Anubhav portal offers ease of access to DND services, enabling consumers to manage preferences for commercial communication, register complaints about unsolicited communication, track their complaint status, and view a summary of complaints sorted by service provider.

Consumers are encouraged to frequently engage with the TRAI MySpeed and MyCall applications, as increased participation will enhance the availability and usefulness of the information provided by the platform.
