Tripura Unveils ₹270 Crore Development Projects on Basant Panchami
In a significant boost for infrastructure and community development in Tripura, Union Minister for the Development of North Eastern Region, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated five development projects worth ₹270 crore on the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami. Additionally, they laid the foundation stones for three more projects, totaling ₹95 crore, aiming to enhance road connectivity, power access, and support livelihoods in tribal and remote areas of the state.
During the inauguration, Minister Scindia emphasized that these initiatives are integral to a larger vision to transform Tripura into a connected, competitive, and sustainable state. This aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s directive to allocate 10% of the Gross Budgetary Support of all central ministries to the North Eastern Region. Over the past decade, an impressive ₹6.5 lakh crore has been invested across the eight North Eastern states, fueling vital infrastructure improvements, economic growth, and job creation.
Transformational Projects for Tripura
Tripura has witnessed remarkable development over the last decade, including broad-gauge rail connectivity extending to Sabroom, and the expansion of road lengths from 850 km to over 1,550 km. In aviation, the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport has been upgraded to accommodate 3 million passengers annually. Furthermore, Tripura has achieved power surplus with an installed capacity of approximately 1,000 MW, benefiting households, agriculture, and industry.
The projects inaugurated and launched today include:
- Jatanbari–Mandirghat–Tirthamukh Road (14 km) to enhance access to vital village amenities like markets, schools, and hospitals.
- Gandacherra–Raishyabari–Narikel Kunja Road (8 km) aimed at connecting tribal populations to district headquarters.
- PMGSY road initiatives targeting interior and hilly regions.
- Solar Micro-Grid Projects under PM-DevINE, designed to deliver clean and reliable electricity to remote areas, thus uplifting education, healthcare, and small businesses.
A Vision for the Future
Minister Scindia commended Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for his commitment and collaboration with the central government, noting that these joint efforts are accelerating the transformation of Tripura. He expressed a vision for Tripura to emerge not just as the gateway to the North East, but also as a portal to South-East Asia, enhancing trade and tourism opportunities while strengthening Guwahati and Tripura as international connectivity hubs.
Scindia concluded with an inspiring message: “Roads will not merely carry vehicles — they will carry ambition. Power will not merely light homes — it will illuminate futures.”
Post-inauguration, both leaders visited two key PM-DevINE health projects in Agartala. The Agartala Government Dental College Building aims to improve dental education and public oral health, while the Maternal Child Health (MCH) Wing at AGMC GBP Hospital focuses on bolstering maternal, neonatal, and child healthcare services.
These initiatives, along with ongoing projects in tourism, industrial development, and social infrastructure, are poised to solidify Tripura’s status as a strategic hub in the North East, contributing to the vision of a developed India by 2047.
