Toxic OTT Rights: Streaming Giants in Talks, But Deal Numbers Remain Speculative
Yash’s latest film, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, has not met the box office expectations that accompanied its grand release. Despite its theatrical performance falling short, the film’s journey is far from over. According to Bollywood Hungama, discussions are currently taking place with various streaming platforms regarding the film’s digital release.
The film’s digital rights have reportedly seen a decline in value due to its box office results. However, no official OTT deal has been confirmed yet, and the figures circulating in the industry should be viewed with caution. An industry source shared, “There are conversations happening with streaming platforms, but nothing has been locked yet. The figures being discussed or reported at the moment should not be treated as the final deal value. The team is evaluating the offers and looking at what makes the most sense for the film.”
Expectations vs. Reality
Toxic was directed by Geetu Mohandas and features a star-studded cast that includes Yash, Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi, and Rukmini Vasanth. The film was positioned as a major theatrical event, generating significant buzz prior to its release. Unfortunately, its box office trajectory did not align with the high expectations set by its promotional campaign.
Reports have emerged suggesting that earlier OTT offers for Toxic were considerably higher than what platforms are currently willing to pay. Some estimates have placed the revised value at around Rs. 30 crores. However, Bollywood Hungama emphasizes that these figures should not be regarded as finalized deals at this stage.
Cautious Streaming Market
The streaming landscape has become increasingly cautious, with platforms now more carefully evaluating a film’s theatrical performance, audience reception, and potential long-term streaming value before making substantial financial commitments. This shift in the market dynamics means that Toxic’s path to an OTT release is still uncertain.
An industry insider remarked, “While Toxic may not have delivered the theatrical run that was expected, the film continues to generate considerable curiosity, particularly around its digital premiere. Conversations with multiple platforms are currently underway, but no deal has been locked yet. Importantly, the figures being circulated in the market at this stage are purely speculative.”
