Solar Industries Expands Global Reach with Acquisition of South African Company

Solar Industries, based in Nagpur, has finalized a deal to acquire South Africa’s Omnia Holdings for Rs 12,951 crore. This acquisition will create one of the largest integrated blasting solutions platforms globally. The move will also provide Solar access to key international markets, including the US, Canada, Australia, Brazil, and Indonesia, as well as southern and western Africa.

The acquisition will enable Solar Group to enter the agricultural sector, as Omnia is a significant producer of ammonium nitrate, utilized in both agriculture and explosives. The transaction is expected to close in early to mid-2027, pending customary conditions and competition approvals. Following the completion, Omnia will be delisted from the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and A2X Markets.

Omnia operates in 23 countries and reaches 40 nations through a network of 70 distribution centers. The company reported a turnover of $1.4 billion (Rs 13,307 crore) for the fiscal year ending March 2026, up from $1.3 billion in FY25 and $1.2 billion in FY24. The buyout will be executed through Solar SA Investments Proprietary, a wholly owned subsidiary of Solar Industries. This marks Solar Group’s second acquisition in South Africa, following its purchase of ProBlast in 2024.

Solar Group’s Managing Director, Manish Nuwal, expressed admiration for Omnia’s mining and agriculture businesses, highlighting the importance of this transaction in their goal to become a global leader in explosives and blasting solutions. Omnia’s BME brand is noted for its strong international mining platform and technological leadership in electronic initiation and ammonium nitrate manufacturing. Solar Group has been expanding its presence in Africa since establishing a manufacturing facility in Zambia in 2010.
