Shilp Samagam Mela 2026 Celebrates India’s Cultural Heritage

The Shilp Samagam Mela 2026, hosted by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment at Dilli Haat in New Delhi, showcases India’s vibrant artistic traditions and craftsmanship. Running for 15 days, this Mela brings together a rich tapestry of handicrafts, handloom products, and indigenous art forms, creating a unique platform for cultural diversity and inclusive participation.

Themed **‘प्रकाश और परंपरा – ज्योति से ज्योति जलाएँ**’, the Mela honors India’s traditional crafts and festive lighting while celebrating cultural heritage. Organized into seven thematic zones, each area offers distinct experiences that highlight various aspects of Indian arts and cultures. The zones include कला आँगन, featuring live craft demonstrations; प्रकाश चौक, showcasing lamps and lighting; पूजा पथ, dedicated to devotional products; सजावट बाज़ार for home décor; घराना, focusing on textiles and fashion; स्वाद चौक, offering a fusion of regional cuisines; and मंच, which hosts vibrant cultural activities and performances.

Since its inception in 2022, the Ministry has organized 15 Shilp Samagam Melas, helping over 1,000 artisans from Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes, and Safai Karamcharis gain opportunities to display and sell their creations.

During the Mela’s inauguration on Monday evening, Dr. Virendra Kumar, the Hon’ble Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, toured the stalls and engaged with both artisans and visitors. His interactions emphasized the skill and creativity of the participating craftsmen, showcasing their entrepreneurial efforts.

The Mela’s evening programs are a delightful highlight, featuring a blend of performances from artists hailing from various states. Visitors are enchanted by these colorful showcases, which bring together music, dance, and cultural expressions from different regions of India, promoting a rich cultural exchange.

In total, the Mela features over 130 stalls displaying handicrafts, handloom products, and creative works by artisans, including beneficiaries from marginalized communities such as persons with disabilities. A pivotal initiative, Bharat TULIP, connects artisans with e-commerce platforms, enhancing their market reach and economic prospects while preserving India’s traditional arts.

Additionally, the Mela celebrates inclusivity through the Purple Fest initiative, which highlights the creativity and contributions of persons with disabilities, ensuring equal opportunities are available to everyone.

Supported by the National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC), National Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation (NBCFDC), and other key organizations, artisans are provided with free stalls, travel allowances, and assistance in transporting goods, facilitating their participation.

This initiative underlines the Ministry’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship, preserving traditional craftsmanship, and creating inclusive economic growth while celebrating India’s cultural richness.

Visitors can explore the Shilp Samagam Mela 2026 at Dilli Haat, INA, New Delhi, until November 15, 2026, experiencing the diverse cultural expressions of the country and supporting artisan communities along the way.
