Security Council Renews Mandate for United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for Six Months

The Chinese delegate reiterated that the Golan Heights is recognized as Syrian territory under occupation and stressed the need for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity to be respected. Meanwhile, Syria’s representative pointed out that Israel has occupied the Golan Heights for 59 years and referenced a recent General Assembly vote in which 123 member states supported a resolution demanding Israel’s withdrawal from the area. He called for UNDOF to operate freely without the constraints imposed by Israeli forces and urged Israel to comply with international law and Security Council resolutions.
