Sagar Pictures Entertainment Drops First Teaser Poster for Shrimad Bhagavatam Part I: Vishnurata
Sagar Pictures Entertainment has officially released the first teaser poster for “Shrimad Bhagavatam Part I: Vishnurata,” marking the beginning of an ambitious seven-part theatrical saga. This film aims to set a spiritual and cinematic foundation for its narrative, with “Vishnurata,” meaning “the one protected by Vishnu,” at its core. The teaser poster offers a glimpse into the film’s world, emphasizing divine protection through its imagery.
A New Cinematic Adaptation
This project emerges from the same production house that brought the iconic television epic “Ramayan” to life in 1987. “Shrimad Bhagavatam Part I: Vishnurata” is a cinematic adaptation of the Bhagavatam Mahapurana, one of India’s most revered sacred texts, cherished by millions globally. The Bhagavatam, centered around Lord Shri Krishna, unfolds a vast spiritual universe filled with themes of devotion, dharma, and the eternal bond between humanity and the divine.
Co-directors Akash Sagar Chopra and Amrit Sagar Chopra shared their thoughts on the film, stating, “As both brothers and co-directors of this film, we grew up with the stories of the Bhagavatam. For millions of Indians, we believe these stories exist not only as spiritual knowledge, but as part of our civilisational memory.” They acknowledged their grandfather’s legacy, saying, “Our grandfather brought the Ramayana to the screen, and it became a defining medium through which a generation experienced the epic. But we cannot recreate what he did, nor would we try.”
The Journey of Creation
The Chopra brothers emphasized the extensive preparation that went into adapting the Bhagavatam for the screen. “For the last six years, the two of us have simply tried to understand the Bhagavatam before convincing ourselves that we were ready to write it for the screen,” they explained. They recognized that “Part I, Vishnurata, could not be approached as a conventional film,” noting that the text’s scale and imagination required a vast cinematic canvas.
They further elaborated on their artistic vision, stating, “Across centuries, the divine has taken form in our paintings, sculptures and sacred imagery. We wanted to remain true to the images we have grown up seeing, recognising and praying to—not reinventing them for the sake of reinvention, but bringing them to life with the realism, authenticity and scale that cinema today makes possible.” Their goal with “Vishnurata” is to evoke familiar and sacred visual memories, allowing audiences to experience the Bhagavata Mahapurana on an unprecedented cinematic scale.
Production and Release Details
“Shrimad Bhagavatam Part I: Vishnurata” is co-directed by the award-winning filmmakers Akash Sagar Chopra and Amrit Sagar Chopra, who are also the grandsons of the late filmmaker and producer, Shri Ramanand Sagar. The film is currently in the final stages of production, focusing on expansive production design and visual storytelling to create a unique cinematic experience.
Presented by Sagar Pictures Entertainment, “Shrimad Bhagavatam Part I: Vishnurata” is set to release in theaters worldwide across all premium formats in 2027.
