Revolutionizing Tribal Education: TribeX Launches Digital Learning Platform
In a groundbreaking move aimed at transforming tribal education and preserving India’s rich cultural heritage, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs has unveiled TribeX, a pioneering digital learning platform focused on tribal arts, culture, traditional knowledge, and skill development. The launch took place in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha, during the National Workshop on Strengthening Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs) and was led by Hon’ble Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Shri Jual Oram.
The ceremony attracted significant figures, including Shri Durgadas Uikey, Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs; Dr. R. Balasubramaniam from NITI Aayog; and Odisha’s Minister for ST & SC Development, Shri Nityananda Gond, among other officials and experts in the realm of tribal education and culture.
During his address, Shri Jual Oram emphasized that TribeX represents the government’s dedication to not only preserving but also promoting India’s diverse tribal legacy. He highlighted the role of digital technology in overcoming geographical hurdles and empowering tribal communities, ensuring the survival of ancient knowledge systems in contemporary society. Oram encouraged TRIs and Tribal Welfare Departments across the nation to raise awareness about TribeX, urging educational institutions to enroll in the courses offered on the platform.
TribeX aims to serve as a comprehensive digital learning ecosystem, providing structured learning through free certificate courses and UGC-recognized Post Graduate diploma programs that concentrate on tribal languages, arts, crafts, and traditional knowledge. This innovative platform allows learners and enthusiasts from around the globe to study directly with tribal knowledge experts and master artisans, while gaining invaluable insights into India’s rich tribal traditions.
Currently, TribeX features 20 free certificate courses covering various tribal art forms, including paintings, handicrafts, and traditional musical instruments, with plans to expand this offering to over 100 courses. A Memorandum of Understanding was established between the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi, to support the introduction of UGC-recognized hybrid diploma programs.
The five newly launched diploma programs include:
- Tribal Language: Santali (Ol Chiki)
- Sustainable Tribal Culture Based Livelihood Practices
- Museology and Tribal Museum Management
- Tribal Arts and Crafts of India
- Tribal Textiles
These programs are designed to combine expert lectures with internships and dissertations, enhancing job opportunities for graduates. The platform also integrates a robust Learning Management System (LMS) and a comprehensive Repository Management System, ensuring a secure and effective learning environment.
Additionally, the Heritage Archive within TribeX aims to house over 10,000 multimedia resources, including audio, video, and literature that chronicle tribal festivals, cultural practices, and oral traditions from across India.
The launch of TribeX is a significant step forward for the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, marking its commitment to leverage digital innovation for the empowerment of tribal communities. Positioned as a one-stop digital hub for learning and preserving tribal knowledge, TribeX promises to become an essential gateway for future generations to appreciate and continue India’s vibrant tribal heritage.
