PM Modi Unveils 2047 Vision for India
As the India AI Impact Summit 2026 kicks off in New Delhi, it marks a significant milestone as the first global gathering of its kind in the Global South focused on artificial intelligence. Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the summit’s guiding principle, “Sarvajan Hitay, Sarvajan Sukhaye,” which translates to “Welfare for all, happiness for all.” The summit aims to unite global leaders, technology experts, and industry stakeholders to explore how AI can foster inclusive growth and sustainable development.
Global Collaboration for Inclusive Growth
The India AI Impact Summit 2026 serves as a platform for Heads of State, government officials, and industry leaders to discuss the transformative potential of AI. Prime Minister Modi articulated a vision where AI accelerates global development while remaining human-centric. He stressed that the technology should enhance human capabilities rather than replace them. The summit’s structure revolves around three key themes: People, Planet, and Progress, aiming to ensure that the benefits of AI are accessible to all, not just a select few.
Modi highlighted that AI governance, inclusive datasets, and applications in climate, agriculture, and public health are central to India’s approach. The summit seeks to amplify underrepresented voices and development priorities, particularly in the Global South. By addressing issues such as AI bias and limitations, the summit aims to foster global cooperation and awareness, ensuring that AI serves humanity equitably.
AI’s Role in India’s Development Journey
Prime Minister Modi outlined AI’s transformative potential in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, or a developed India by 2047. He noted that AI is already making strides in various sectors, including healthcare, education, and agriculture. For instance, AI solutions are being used for early detection of diseases and personalized learning platforms for students in rural areas.
The Prime Minister also mentioned innovative initiatives like Amul’s use of AI to support women dairy farmers with real-time guidance. In agriculture, the Bharat Vistaar initiative integrates AI into crop advisory and weather intelligence, helping farmers make informed decisions. Modi emphasized that AI should bridge divides rather than deepen them, making it a tool for delivering essential services to every citizen.
Building a Robust AI Ecosystem
India’s journey in building a robust Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) has set a precedent for the Global South. Prime Minister Modi explained that the convergence of DPI and AI is crucial for inclusive development. The success of initiatives like Aadhaar and UPI demonstrates the importance of creating digital infrastructure as a public good, designed for scale and inclusion.
The government is committed to enhancing AI capabilities through the IndiaAI Mission, which focuses on providing affordable access to AI infrastructure for startups and enterprises. Modi highlighted the establishment of Centres of Excellence in various sectors to equip the workforce with relevant AI skills. The aim is to position India not just as a consumer of AI but as a leader in creating innovative solutions tailored to local needs.
Addressing Challenges and Ensuring Safety
As AI technology evolves, concerns about its misuse and potential biases remain significant. Prime Minister Modi acknowledged these challenges and emphasized the need for a global compact on AI that prioritizes safety, transparency, and ethical use. India is taking proactive steps to ensure responsible AI deployment, including the establishment of the IndiaAI Safety Institute to promote ethical practices.
The Prime Minister also addressed fears among the youth regarding job displacement due to AI. He reassured that the government is investing in skilling initiatives to prepare the workforce for an AI-driven future. Modi believes that while AI may change the nature of work, it will also create new opportunities, reinforcing the idea that innovation leads to job creation rather than elimination.
