National Conference on Homoeopathy and Mental Health

The National Homoeopathy Research Institute in Mental Health (NHRIMH) recently hosted a significant event titled the “National Conference on Homoeopathy in Mental Health.” This two-day conference took place on December 23-24, 2024, at the NHRIMH Auditorium in Kottayam. The event marked the golden jubilee of the institute and was organized under the auspices of the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. The conference aimed to explore the role of homoeopathy in promoting mental health and to discuss future strategies for integrating homoeopathic practices into mental health care.

Inauguration and Keynote Address

The conference commenced with an inaugural address delivered by Shri Prataprao Jadhav, the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush. Due to scheduling conflicts, he participated via a video message. In his address, he congratulated the NHRIMH on its 50 years of service and highlighted the significant contributions of homoeopathy to mental health. He praised the institute for its research publications and advancements in the field.

Dr. Subhash Kaushik, the Director General of CCRH, welcomed the attendees and provided an overview of the NHRIMH’s organizational structure. He discussed the institute’s achievements, including its research work, patient care initiatives, and postgraduate courses. His speech paid tribute to the institute’s founder and acknowledged the contributions of all delegates present.

The event also featured esteemed guests such as Sh. Kodikunnil Suresh, a Member of Parliament from Mavelikkara, Kerala, and Dr. Anil Khurana, Chairman of the National Commission for Homoeopathy. Suresh emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing the facilities at NHRIMH, including a substantial investment of 400 crore rupees for a new hospital block. He stressed the importance of raising public awareness about the institute’s services and treatments.

Conference Themes and Discussions

The central theme of the conference was “Optimizing the Role of Homoeopathy in Promoting Mental Health.” The event brought together interdisciplinary experts from various premier research institutes across India. Attendees engaged in brainstorming sessions and panel discussions aimed at developing a roadmap for integrating homoeopathy into mental health strategies.

Various sessions were held, featuring eminent speakers who addressed critical topics related to homoeopathy and mental health. Notable speakers included Dr. Kishore Kumar from NIMHANS, Dr. Shashikant Tiwari from CCRH, and Dr. Shailendra K. Saxena from King George’s Medical University. They presented on diverse subjects such as the NIMHANS Model of Integrative Medicine, the relationship between mind and homoeopathy, and the challenges faced in managing psychiatric patients with homoeopathy.

The conference also included a panel discussion on “Roadmap for Integrative Approaches in Mental Health,” featuring key figures in the field. This dialogue aimed to identify collaborative strategies for enhancing mental health care through homoeopathic practices.

Research and Future Directions

The conference served as a platform for researchers, practitioners, and students to share their findings and insights. Delegates included homoeopathic researchers, scientists from various disciplines, and representatives from different homoeopathic associations. The event featured case reports, case series, and dissertation competitions, allowing participants to present their peer-reviewed research.
