Mrunal Thakur and Huma Qureshi’s ‘Pooja Meri Jaan’ Finally Arrives on ZEE5 After Four-Year Wait
After nearly four years of waiting, the thriller Pooja Meri Jaan, featuring Mrunal Thakur and Huma Qureshi, is finally set to make its debut on streaming. The film has officially secured a spot on ZEE5, ending a long period of uncertainty regarding its release. While the streaming platform has included the film in its upcoming content lineup, the exact premiere date has yet to be announced.
Production Challenges and Delays
Directed by Navjot Gulati and produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, Pooja Meri Jaan was initially intended for a direct-to-digital release on JioCinema. However, the merger of JioCinema with Disney+ Hotstar stalled its release plans, leaving the film’s future in doubt for an extended time. This prolonged delay reportedly caused frustration among both the cast and the filmmakers, as the project lingered in limbo.
Earlier this year, Navjot Gulati shared insights into the emotional toll of the delay. He revealed that his father, who passed away in 2024, spent his final months asking about the film’s release. Gulati also claimed that co-producer Amar Kaushik ceased communication after October 2025, alleging that a pricing dispute was the reason for the hold-up. He expressed disappointment that a theatrical release was never considered, citing Vadh 2 as an example of an OTT-backed film that successfully made it to cinemas.
ZEE5’s Expansive Content Slate
In addition to Pooja Meri Jaan, ZEE5 has unveiled an extensive Hindi content slate that includes several new films and series. Upcoming shows feature Kambli, inspired by the life of former cricketer Vinod Kambli, The Scam: Leaked, Coffee King, and Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai 2.0, hosted by R. Madhavan. The platform will also revive classic favorites like the Zee Horror Show, alongside new seasons of popular franchises such as Rangbaaz, Janaawar, and Bakaiti.
The film lineup on ZEE5 is equally impressive, featuring titles like Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai with Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde, and Mouni Roy, Bandar starring Bobby Deol and Sanya Malhotra, and Kangana Ranaut’s Bharat Bhagya Vidhata. Other notable films include Vaani Kapoor’s Sarvgunn Sampann, as well as Ghamasaan, Ikroop, and Dalimb.
Themes and Cast of Pooja Meri Jaan
Pooja Meri Jaan delves into themes of stalking and cybercrime, featuring a talented cast that includes Vikram Singh Chauhan and Vijay Raaz in pivotal roles. The film completed shooting and post-production by the end of 2022. Navjot Gulati has expressed that the delay has negatively impacted his career, as producers have become wary of collaborating with him while his debut film remains unreleased. He even stated his willingness to buy back the film if the producers opted not to proceed.
