IITs Halt Campus Hiring by 22 Companies for Two Years Following Unfulfilled Job Offers to 2026 Graduates
The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) will cease cooperation with 22 companies for campus recruitment over the next two placement seasons. This decision follows the firms’ failure to honor job offers made to students graduating in 2026. The move comes as the IITs gear up for another placement cycle amid cautious hiring from technology companies and uncertainty in entry-level recruitment.
Non-cooperation with 22 companies
The All IITs Placement Committee (AIPC) made this decision during a meeting at IIT-Guwahati earlier this month. The AIPC, which coordinates placement and internship guidelines across the IITs, plans to formally notify the companies by September 30. The committee has opted to refer to the action as “non-cooperation” rather than “blacklisting.”
The situation involves over 150 job offers across 23 IITs, with some companies retracting between 10 and 15 offers. AIPC convenor John Jose confirmed that Oracle is among the companies facing non-cooperation for two years, having reportedly failed to honor around 40 offers across IITs. Oracle has not engaged with the IITs for recruitment this year, and the company did not respond to requests for comment.
The AIPC is still finalizing the list of companies involved and the total number of unfulfilled offers. The committee had previously given companies until September 15 to onboard students to whom they had extended offers. Last year, around 10-11 companies failed to honor offers, making this year’s figure the highest in recent years.
