Mines Ministry to Unveil “List of Critical Minerals for India”

Government of India, through Ministry of Mines, is set to unveil ‘India Critical Minerals List’ for the first time to ensure reduction of import dependencies, enhance supply chain resilience and support targets net zero of the country. The list of critical minerals will be released by Union Minister for Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs Shri Pralhad Joshi in the presence of State Minister for Mines, Coal and Railways Shri Raosaheb Patil Danve and other dignitaries. The August ceremony will be held at the India International Centre, New Delhi on the 28thth June 2023.

The event will be honored by prominent dignitaries including foreign dignitaries, industry representatives, subject matter experts and senior government officials. The main highlights of the list of critical minerals will be presented through a short video documentary and some of the main critical minerals will be shown during the ceremony.

The publication of the list of critical minerals will mark a milestone in India’s quest for self-sufficiency and security in the domain of mineral resources. This meticulously compiled list is designed to identify and prioritize minerals essential to various industries such as high-tech electronics, telecommunications, transportation, and defense. The list will serve as a guiding framework for policy formulation, strategic planning and investment decisions in the mining sector. This initiative is in line with the broader vision of achieving the ‘Net Zero’ goal for India through the Government’s commitment to create a robust and resilient mining sector. It is worth noting that India recently became the new partner of the coveted Mineral Security Partnership (MSP) to strengthen supply chains of critical minerals.
