MAMI Reveals Fresh Logo and Brand Identity, Kicks Off Year-Round MAMI Independent Initiative
Mumbai’s Academy of the Moving Image (MAMI) has taken a significant step forward by unveiling a new logo and brand identity, marking a fresh chapter for the esteemed institution. Established in 1997, MAMI has been a cornerstone in celebrating both Indian and global cinema. Alongside the rebranding, MAMI announced the launch of “MAMI Independent,” a year-round initiative aimed at promoting contemporary independent films, providing a vital platform for filmmakers and audiences alike.
New Logo and Brand Identity
The new logo and brand identity reflect MAMI’s commitment to cinema as an art form that connects people and fosters dialogue. This rebranding signifies MAMI’s evolution into a festival that is shaped by its community and powered by diverse voices. While the organization remains rooted in Mumbai, it continues to engage with cinematic works from across India and around the world. The fresh identity aims to resonate with audiences and filmmakers, emphasizing that cinema is not just about entertainment but also about sparking conversations and sharing stories that unite us.
Launch of MAMI Independent
In conjunction with the rebranding, MAMI introduced “MAMI Independent,” a groundbreaking initiative designed to support independent cinema. This program will feature weekly screenings, providing a platform for films that often struggle to find a place in mainstream exhibition circuits. The initiative aims to showcase a curated selection of independent feature films, documentaries, shorts, and experimental works from both Indian and international filmmakers. By doing so, MAMI Independent seeks to expand the audience for these films and create opportunities for meaningful discussions between filmmakers and cinephiles.
Screening Schedule and Community Engagement
Starting on February 25, 2026, MAMI Independent will host weekly screenings every Wednesday at 7 p.m. at PVR Lido in Santacruz, Mumbai. The initiative is designed to foster a stronger ecosystem for independent cinema, allowing filmmakers to present their work to engaged audiences. The screenings will not only highlight films that challenge conventions but also invite viewers to reflect on the stories being told. MAMI Independent aims to bring these often-overlooked films into the spotlight, encouraging audiences to feel, question, and engage with the narratives presented.
Commitment to Cinematic Excellence
Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, the Festival Director of MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, expressed enthusiasm about the new brand identity, stating that it reflects the festival’s core belief in the power of cinema to connect people and ideas. The launch of MAMI Independent reinforces MAMI’s dedication to nurturing cinematic excellence and supporting independent filmmakers. As the initiative unfolds, details about the screening slate and monthly calendar will be shared through MAMI’s official channels, further solidifying its role as a vital hub for both Indian and global cinema. Together, the new logo and MAMI Independent highlight MAMI’s commitment to creative freedom and the discovery of new voices in the film industry.
