Lucknow Hosts AI Impact Conference to Shape Future of Healthcare
Lucknow became a focal point for national and global discussions on artificial intelligence on Monday, as leaders from various sectors convened for the Uttar Pradesh Regional AI Impact Conference 2026. Organized by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in partnership with IndiaAI and the Uttar Pradesh government, the event took place alongside the Fourth Meeting of the AI for Economic Growth and Social Good Working Group, forming part of the broader India AI Impact Summit initiative.
The conference commenced with an inaugural session that articulated the vision of India and Uttar Pradesh to utilize artificial intelligence in enhancing public service delivery, particularly in the healthcare sector. This session featured prominent figures such as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Minister Jitin Prasada, and other key state officials who outlined their commitment to ethical, safe, and inclusive AI integration.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the importance of technology-driven solutions in addressing the healthcare challenges faced by a populous and diverse state like Uttar Pradesh. He expressed that initiatives led by artificial intelligence can enhance early diagnosis and critical care, thereby solidifying Uttar Pradesh’s goal of becoming a national model for AI-driven healthcare. He also announced the UP AI Mission, bolstered by a budget of approximately ₹2,000 crores, to develop a comprehensive state-focused AI ecosystem.
Following this, Jitin Prasada highlighted the significant strides India is making in the digital technology sector, positioning Uttar Pradesh as a burgeoning tech hub. He stressed the importance of ensuring that the advantages of AI and other emerging technologies are accessible to all citizens while managing the associated challenges such as cybersecurity and digital literacy.
In further remarks, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak showcased the transformation in healthcare delivery in Uttar Pradesh, referencing advances in medical education and the development of one of India’s largest digital health frameworks. He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to utilizing AI for enhancing healthcare systems and setting benchmarks at both national and global levels.
Sunil Kumar Sharma, the Minister for Information Technology and Electronics in Uttar Pradesh, noted that the intersection of AI and healthcare is creating openings for public welfare initiatives across the state. He reiterated that the state aims to harness AI to advance healthcare services, ensuring accessibility and affordability for all.
Among the significant announcements during Day 1 of the conference, the IndiaAI Mission revealed plans to establish 62 AI and data labs across Uttar Pradesh, aimed at enhancing the state’s AI research and deployment capabilities. This initiative was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Uttar Pradesh government, marking a crucial step toward building the infrastructure required for robust AI implementation.
The Regional Summit also connected domestic and international experts to explore best practices in AI-driven healthcare systems, focusing on innovations such as AI diagnostics and telemedicine. Discussions centered around how India can leverage its expertise to emerge as a leader in population-scale, cost-effective AI solutions.
Public-facing sessions provided insights into translating high-level AI principles into actionable strategies, particularly within the Global South. These dialogues set the stage for crafting the proposed Global AI Impact Awards, designed to incentivize responsible AI initiatives.
