Indian Coast Guard Commissions New Fast Patrol Vessel ‘Amulya’
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has proudly commissioned its latest addition, the ‘Amulya’, a state-of-the-art Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV), on December 19, 2025, in Goa. This 51-meter ship is the third vessel in the Adamya-class series, comprising eight new-generation patrol boats designed for coastal operations. With over 60% of its components sourced locally, ‘Amulya’, which translates to ‘priceless’, signifies India’s commitment to achieving defense self-reliance as part of the Government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make-in-India initiatives.
Advanced Design and Capabilities
‘Amulya’ boasts a modern design philosophy that emphasizes efficiency, endurance, and rapid response capabilities necessary for various maritime missions. The ship is powered by two advanced diesel engines that produce a total of 3000 KW, allowing it to reach top speeds of 27 knots and covering an operational distance of 1,500 nautical miles. This impressive range enables the ship to effectively conduct extended missions within India’s maritime territories.
Mission Readiness
The vessel is equipped with cutting-edge indigenous weaponry and systems that enhance operational flexibility and performance at sea. Tasks of the ‘Amulya’ will include surveillance, interception of illegal activities, search and rescue operations, anti-smuggling initiatives, and responding to maritime pollution incidents. These capabilities will significantly bolster the ICG’s mission to safeguard the eastern seaboard of India.
Deployment and Leadership
ICGS Amulya will be stationed at Paradip in Odisha, operating under the oversight of the Commander of the Coast Guard Region (North East). Commandant (JG) Anupam Singh will lead a dedicated team consisting of 5 officers and 34 personnel aboard the vessel. The commissioning event was attended by Joint Secretary (IC), Ceremonial & CAO, Shri Amitabh Prasad, alongside high-ranking officials from the ICG, representatives from both Central and State Governments, and attendees from Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL). This significant milestone marks another step forward in the ongoing expansion of the ICG fleet, enhancing coastal security across India’s maritime domain.
