India Teams Up with QNu Labs for Quantum Cybersecurity

The Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N) has entered into a significant partnership with QNu Labs Pvt. Ltd. to enhance cybersecurity measures in the face of advancing quantum computing. This collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to develop cutting-edge, quantum-resilient cybersecurity solutions crucial for safeguarding India’s digital infrastructure.

Strategic Collaboration for Cybersecurity Advancements

The MoU was officially signed today in the presence of Union Minister of State for Commerce & Industry and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Jitin Prasada, and key figures from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). This strategic partnership underscores the necessity of preparing digital frameworks to shield against future cybersecurity threats, especially as quantum technology evolves worldwide.

Indigenous Solutions for a Secure Future

As part of this collaboration, BISAG-N will integrate its indigenous cryptographic software capabilities, including its well-known product “Vedic Kavach,” with advanced quantum hardware provided by QNu Labs. Vedic Kavach has already been used in early government projects in India, focusing on quantum-resilient web servers and an indigenous secure web browser that utilizes Quantum Random Number Generation (QRNG) technology.

Framework for Implementation and Development

The MoU establishes a structured approach for the transfer and integration of technologies aimed at producing hardware-backed, quantum-resilient cybersecurity solutions across various sectors, including government systems, defense networks, and critical infrastructure. This collaboration is in line with national policies and addresses urgent security needs.

During the signing ceremony, Shri Jitin Prasada emphasized that India’s commitment extends beyond immediate technological challenges, focusing on building secure digital technologies for future generations. Shri S. Krishnan, Secretary at MeitY, reiterated the necessity for robust security measures as India’s digital ecosystem grows to encompass various sectors like finance and governance. He pointed out that adopting quantum-resilient technologies is crucial for protecting sensitive data and upholding trust in digital transactions.
