India Launches Comprehensive National Cooperative Database
The Ministry of Cooperation in India has successfully developed a comprehensive National Cooperative Database (NCD). This initiative aims to streamline and enhance the management of cooperative societies across the nation. The project received support from various State and Union Territory (UT) governments, ensuring a collaborative effort to gather and maintain accurate data. Phased Development of the NCD
The development of the NCD took place in three distinct phases. Phase I was completed in February 2023, focusing on mapping approximately 2.64 lakh primary cooperative societies in sectors such as agriculture, dairy, and fisheries. This phase involved collaboration with district registrar offices and the assistance of 500 local interns from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
Phase II expanded the scope of the database by mapping national cooperative societies and federations, along with their linkages at state and district levels. This phase also included data collection from various cooperative banks and federations. The third phase, which began in May 2023, aimed to include over 5.3 lakh cooperative societies from other sectors. Data entries for this phase were completed by nearly all States and UTs through their respective Registrar of Cooperative Societies (RCS) offices.
The phased approach ensured a systematic and organized collection of data, allowing for a comprehensive overview of the cooperative landscape in India.
Operational Features of the NCD
As of November 28, 2024, the NCD is fully operational and accessible online at cooperatives.gov.in. The database provides detailed information about cooperative societies, categorized by state and sector. This user-friendly platform allows stakeholders to access vital data easily, promoting transparency and accountability within the cooperative sector.
The NCD portal includes two annexures: Annexure I contains state-wise details of cooperatives, while Annexure II provides sector-wise information. This structured presentation of data enables users to gain insights into the cooperative landscape across different regions and sectors, facilitating informed decision-making.
