Historic Commissioning of First Women Cadets at NDA

A significant milestone has been achieved in the Indian military as the first group of women cadets trained at the National Defence Academy (NDA) have been officially commissioned as officers. This pioneering cohort, consisting of 17 women, commenced their training in August 2022 as part of the NDA’s 148th Course and has successfully completed their demanding pre-commission training at various Service academies.
Indian Army Celebrates Female Officers’ Commissioning
On June 13, 2026, during the Passing Out Parade of the 158th Regular Course at the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun, nine of these female officers from the NDA were commissioned. The event was honored by the presence of President Smt Droupadi Murmu, who reviewed the parade, underscoring the importance of this moment for women’s representation in the armed forces.
Air Force Welcomes New Officers
Meanwhile, in the Indian Air Force, a graduation ceremony for five officers took place on the same day during the Combined Graduation Parade of the 217th Course at the Air Force Academy located in Dundigal, Hyderabad. The ceremony was overseen by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, who recognized the contributions of these new officers in their commitment to national service.
Navy Commissions Cadets
Additionally, in the Indian Navy, three officers received their commission on May 28, 2026, during the Spring Term 2026 Passing Out Parade at the Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala. This parade was reviewed by Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Naval Command.
