The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has launched an official WhatsApp channel to enhance communication with its members. This initiative aims to provide timely updates and essential information regarding provident fund accounts. Members can join the channel to stay informed about the latest developments from the EPFO.
The EPFO announced the WhatsApp channel through a post on X (formerly Twitter), encouraging members to click on a provided link to join. The channel will not only share updates but also offer educational content related to various EPF topics.

The EPFO’s website also provides comprehensive information on services such as EPF advance, withdrawal, UAN activation, claims, transfers, KYC, and pension-related facilities. The EPF scheme offers retirement savings with tax-free interest growth, employer contributions, and financial security for families.
WhatsApp Services in Banking
Several banks in India have adopted WhatsApp-based services, allowing customers to perform tasks like checking account balances and managing cards securely. Customers typically initiate these services by sending a ‘Hi’ from their registered mobile number.
In May, the EPFO was reportedly planning to implement its services through WhatsApp, as highlighted by Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. The move aims to leverage the platform’s popularity among mobile users across the country.
Functionality of the EPF WhatsApp Service
Under the proposed WhatsApp service, EPFO members can start a conversation by sending a ‘Hello’ message to a verified number. This number will be marked with a green tick for authenticity. Members will receive updates directly on their registered mobile numbers, with support for local and regional languages to enhance accessibility.
Revised Withdrawal Rules
Earlier this year, the EPFO simplified its partial PF withdrawal framework by consolidating 13 provisions into three categories: Essential Needs, Housing Needs, and Special Circumstances. Members can now withdraw up to 100% of their eligible PF balance, with increased limits for education and marriage. The minimum service requirement has been reduced to 12 months, and withdrawals under the ‘Special Circumstances’ category can be made without providing a reason.
Auto Settlement of Claims
Currently, members must submit withdrawal applications, which can lead to delays. The new auto-settlement facility processes eligible claims electronically, allowing subscribers to receive funds within three days. The EPFO has increased the auto-settlement limit to Rs 5 lakh from Rs 1 lakh, facilitating quicker access to funds for marriage, education, illness, and housing needs.
