Empowering SC/ST Entrepreneurs Through National Hub Scheme
The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) is taking significant strides to promote entrepreneurship among Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) through the National Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Hub (NSSH) Scheme. This initiative aims to fulfill the Government of India’s mandate of ensuring that at least 4% of procurement comes from SC/ST Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) under the Public Procurement Policy. To support these entrepreneurs, the scheme has launched various initiatives designed to enhance their capabilities and market presence.
The NSSH Scheme provides vital resources to SC/ST entrepreneurs, including capacity-building programs and market linkage initiatives. It organizes Special Vendor Development Programmes (SVDPs), workshops, and awareness sessions to enhance understanding of available benefits. Financial support is also provided for the purchase of machinery and equipment, as well as assistance for registration under the Single Point Registration Scheme. Moreover, the scheme facilitates enrollment on e-commerce platforms promoted by the government.
Exhibition Participation and Financial Support
A key component of the NSSH Scheme is the Special Marketing Assistance Scheme (SMAS), which enables SC/ST entrepreneurs to showcase their offerings in both domestic and international exhibitions. Over the past five years, a notable 3,929 entrepreneurs have benefited from this initiative, with an investment of Rs. 36.41 crore for participation in exhibitions across India. This exposure aims to build their capacity to compete in public procurement, ultimately strengthening their business viability.
Raising Awareness Across the Nation
To further disseminate information about the advantages tied to the NSSH Scheme, the ministry is conducting conclaves, SVDPs, and awareness workshops in various locations nationwide. Additionally, the scheme actively promotes its initiatives through social media platforms to reach a broader audience, particularly targeting the intended beneficiaries.
This update was shared by the Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, in a recent written reply in Lok Sabha. The government’s commitment to empowering SC/ST entrepreneurs remains evident through these comprehensive efforts aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and enhancing participation in public procurement.
