Eight Task Forces Formed to Boost North East Development

The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) is making strides in enhancing development across the North Eastern States of India. On January 31, 2025, the Ministry established eight High-Level Task Forces (HLTFs) aimed at identifying strategies and recommendations for critical sectors such as Agriculture, Sports Promotion, Tourism, Handicrafts, and Infrastructure Development. To date, these task forces have convened 23 meetings, showcasing an ongoing commitment to collaborative governance in the region.

These HLTFs, which operate across all North Eastern States, are led by the Chief Minister or Governor of one state, alongside three other Chief Ministers from different North Eastern states and the Minister of DoNER. This structure promotes inter-state collaboration through structured consultations where the convening state gathers input to foster a collective decision-making process. The initiative aims to maximize resources and support shared goals within the region.

Digital Platform for Streamlined Project Management

To further enhance development efforts, the Poorvottar Vikas Setu portal has been launched by the Ministry of DoNER. This innovative platform acts as a comprehensive single-window system for project proposals in the North East. State Governments and Central Agencies can easily upload Concept Notes and Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), ensuring a quick appraisal process. The portal aids in facilitating inter-ministerial consultations, effectively speeding up decision-making while eliminating cumbersome manual processes.

The Poorvottar Vikas Setu portal is also pivotal for integrated monitoring and coordination, allowing ministries and state authorities to track project statuses, respond to inquiries, and provide updates on implementation progress. This transparency fosters accountability and ensures that all stakeholders can work together efficiently. By consolidating various schemes and reducing duplication of efforts, the platform is set to accelerate the development timeline for the North Eastern Region.

Vibrant Villages Programme Initiatives

Complementing these efforts, the Ministry of Home Affairs has launched the Vibrant Villages Programme, targeting the North Eastern States for integrated development initiatives. This programme focuses on constructing infrastructure, providing livelihood support, and improving service delivery to enhance the quality of life in these communities.

In line with technological advancements, the Ministry of DoNER is leveraging systems such as the PM Gati Shakti Portal to improve project planning and implementation. This portal allows for meticulous scrutiny of Concept Notes to prevent duplication and streamline approvals. The focus on both pre-approval vetting and post-completion review promises greater transparency and precise monitoring of developmental initiatives.

This information was shared by Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Minister of State for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, during a written response to questions posed in the Rajya Sabha, underscoring the government’s commitment to accelerating progress in this vital region of the country.
