Deepak Tijori Claims Rs 2.5 Lakhs Fraud in Funding Deal, Case Filed
Veteran actor and filmmaker Deepak Tijori has reported a significant financial fraud to the Bangur Nagar Police Station, claiming he was swindled out of Rs 2.5 lakhs in a fraudulent film funding scheme. Tijori, who has been a prominent figure in Hindi cinema since the 1990s, was seeking investors for his upcoming project, tentatively titled Tom Dick and Mary. He alleges that two women misled him into believing they could secure essential funding for the film, which he estimates will cost around Rs 25 crores to produce.
Details of the Allegations
According to the police complaint filed on January 13, 2026, Tijori was approached by a woman named Kavita Shibag Kapoor at his Goregaon residence in early February 2025. Kapoor claimed to have connections with major industry players, including T-Series and Zee Network. She later introduced Tijori to another woman, Fauzia RC, who purportedly promised to obtain a crucial Letter of Interest (LoI) from Zee Network. This document was said to be vital for attracting potential investors for Tijori’s film.
The two women assured Tijori that the LoI would be secured within a week and requested a processing fee of Rs 2.5 lakhs. Trusting their claims, Tijori signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the intermediary on February 21, 2025, and transferred the requested amount to an account linked to Fauzia the following day.
Failure to Deliver
Despite the assurances given to him, Tijori did not receive the promised Letter of Interest even after several months had passed. The two women reportedly ceased all communication, ignoring his calls and inquiries. Tijori also mentioned that he was introduced over the phone to an individual named “Joshi,” who allegedly represented the Zee Network. However, upon further investigation, Tijori discovered that no one by that name was employed by the organization, raising suspicions about the legitimacy of the entire arrangement.
Realizing he may have been the victim of a well-orchestrated scam involving false identities and misleading claims, Tijori decided to take action. He approached the police to file a formal complaint, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against Kavita Shibag Kapoor, Fauzia RC, and an unidentified third party. The FIR cites sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for alleged cheating and criminal conspiracy.
