Court Rejects Tanushree Dutta’s Plea Against Nana Patekar

In a significant legal setback for actress Tanushree Dutta, a Mumbai court has dismissed her plea challenging the relief granted to veteran actor Nana Patekar in her ongoing #MeToo case. Despite this ruling, Dutta remains resolute, vowing to intensify her fight for justice. She took to social media to share what she describes as “good news” regarding her case.

Legal Developments in the #MeToo Case

On Friday, the Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in Andheri officially disposed of two sexual harassment cases filed by Tanushree Dutta against Nana Patekar, choreographer Ganesh Acharya, director Rakesh Sarang, and producer Abdul Sami Abdul Gani Siddiqui. These complaints, lodged at the Oshiwara police station in October 2018, pertain to alleged incidents that occurred in March 2008 and October 2010 during the filming of Horn Ok Pleassss. The court ruled that the first case would be closed because the police submitted their closure reports beyond the allowable time frame.

This ruling follows a previous decision where another Mumbai court had dismissed the case against Patekar and the three co-accused. While this verdict presents a considerable legal hurdle for Dutta, she has expressed her determination to continue pursuing justice, emphasizing that the outcome has only strengthened her resolve.

Tanushree Dutta’s Response and Future Plans

In her social media posts, Tanushree Dutta expressed optimism despite the court’s decision. She highlighted that the court has canceled the B-summary report filed by the Mumbai Police regarding her sexual harassment complaint against Patekar and others. Dutta claims that the police attempted to close the case in 2019 based on a misleading B-summary report, which she argues was submitted without interviewing her witnesses. She alleges that her witnesses faced threats from individuals associated with Patekar.

According to Dutta, one of her key witnesses recently provided testimony in court, corroborating her allegations and detailing the intimidation she faced. The court acknowledged this testimony through a filed affidavit, leading to the conclusion that the B-summary report could not be accepted. Dutta asserts that this development means the case remains open, and the police are now required to file a chargesheet against Patekar.

Implications for Media and Public Perception

Tanushree Dutta has also addressed the media’s portrayal of her case, warning that any outlets disseminating false narratives will face legal consequences. She stated, “Me and my legal team have won the case, and any media house that is printing a false totally opposite story will have to answer the court.” Dutta’s comments reflect her frustration with the media coverage surrounding her allegations and her commitment to ensuring that the truth is recognized.

As the legal proceedings continue, Dutta remains focused on her goal of seeking justice. She believes that the recent developments signal a turning point in her case, asserting that the police have no option but to proceed with filing charges against Patekar and the others involved. The ongoing legal battle underscores the complexities surrounding the #MeToo movement in India and the challenges faced by those seeking accountability.
