Future Warfare Course Kicks Off with Focus on Emerging Technologies

The Fourth Edition of the Tri-Services Future Warfare Course began on August 3, 2026, at the prestigious Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi. The event was inaugurated by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General N.S. Raja Subramani, who delivered a keynote address highlighting the essential evolution of warfare and the impact of new technologies on military strategies.

Transforming Military Operations

In his speech, General Subramani addressed the shifting dynamics of modern warfare, emphasizing the pressing need for military forces to adapt to future security challenges. He noted that emerging technologies are significantly influencing how military operations are conducted today.

The Role of Advanced Technologies

The CDS pointed out the pivotal role that artificial intelligence, cyber capabilities, autonomous systems, information warfare, and space technologies play in shaping the conflicts of tomorrow. He called for military personnel to enhance their ability to engage in data-driven decision-making.

Collaboration for National Security

General Subramani also highlighted the necessity for improved jointness and integration among the Armed Forces, industries, academic institutions, and research communities. This collaboration, he asserted, is crucial for bolstering national defense preparedness against evolving threats.

An Engaging Curriculum

The four-week course is organized by the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) and aims to bring together military officers from the three branches of service, along with representatives from government, industry, academia, and strategic bodies. Participants will engage in discussions covering a wide range of pertinent topics, including geopolitics, cognitive warfare, cyber warfare, multi-domain operations, scenario-building, and technology-driven warfare.

Looking Ahead

This comprehensive program not only seeks to educate participants but also aims to foster innovative thinking that responds effectively to the complexities of contemporary military challenges. As the course unfolds, it promises to prepare attendees for the demands of future warfare, reinforcing India’s commitment to a robust defense strategy.
