Computex 2026: Intel Unveils Xeon 6+ for Next-Gen AI

At Computex 2026 in Taipei, Intel unveiled its latest innovations, including the Xeon 6+ processors and the Intel Ethernet E835 controllers and network adapters. The company also provided insights into its AI accelerator roadmap, highlighting the upcoming Crescent Island GPU. These advancements aim to enhance performance and efficiency in cloud-native and AI-driven workloads, reinforcing Intel’s commitment to meeting the evolving demands of modern data centers.

Intel Xeon 6+ Processors: A Leap in Performance

The newly launched Intel Xeon 6+ processors are engineered for high performance, power efficiency, and scalability. These processors are particularly suited for cloud-native environments and AI-driven workloads. Built on Intel’s 18A technology, they are optimized to manage the complexities of orchestration, concurrency, and data movement essential for agentic AI applications.

Intel claims that the Xeon 6+ processors can support up to 288 Efficient-cores, offering a remarkable 2.5 times increase in performance compared to their predecessors. Additionally, they provide a 45% improvement in performance per thread per watt, making them a compelling choice for data centers focused on efficiency. Key features include 12-channel DDR5 memory, 96 lanes of PCIe Gen 5, and support for CXL. The processors also incorporate Intel Application Energy Telemetry, enabling better energy management. With capabilities for up to 9:1 server consolidation and built-in security, these processors are already undergoing testing in telecom network infrastructures and are being prepared for deployment in data centers.

Introducing the Intel Ethernet E835 Controllers

As the demand for AI, cloud, and distributed workloads continues to rise, Intel has launched the Ethernet E835 controllers and network adapters. These new products are designed to provide high-performance, power-efficient connectivity for modern data centers and enterprises. The E835 controllers support throughput of up to 200GbE across various configurations, with data rates ranging from 10GbE to 200GbE.

The Ethernet E835 offers multiple port configurations, including options for 2x25GbE, 4x25GbE, 2x200GbE, and 1x200GbE, which can be customized using the Intel Ethernet Port Configuration Tool. Intel emphasizes the improved power efficiency of these adapters, claiming that the E835-CQDA2 network adapter delivers up to 1.9 times higher performance per watt compared to competing products. Additionally, these networking solutions are designed for longevity, with a lifecycle exceeding ten years. Major companies such as Cisco, Dell, HPE, Lenovo, and Supermicro are set to integrate these new networking solutions into their offerings.

Crescent Island: Intel’s Next-Generation GPU

Intel’s Crescent Island represents the company’s next-generation data center GPU, tailored to address the increasing demands of edge computing and AI workloads. This GPU is built on the Xe3P architecture, which focuses on enhancing efficiency and performance per watt while ensuring broad compatibility with modern AI software.

Crescent Island features LPDDR5X memory with a capacity of up to 480GB, allowing it to manage large, token-intensive workloads effectively. This capability is expected to help reduce the overall cost of ownership for organizations utilizing AI technologies. The GPU is designed with a 350W air-cooled PCIe configuration and leverages Intel’s extensive Xe install base, ensuring that it can meet the needs of various applications in the evolving landscape of data centers.
