BH OTT India Fest 2025: Chunky Panday Unveils Tezaab’s Original Five-Hour Cut
As the Bollywood Hungama OTT India Fest and India Entertainment Awards unfolded in Mumbai, the cast of the upcoming film Rahu-Ketu engaged in a captivating discussion with veteran actor Chunky Pandey. Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma, and Shalini Pandey joined Chunky for a nostalgic journey, during which he revealed intriguing behind-the-scenes details about the iconic film Tezaab (1988). Notably, he shared that one of its most beloved songs, “So Gaya Yeh Jahaan,” was nearly cut from the final version of the film.
Memorable Moments from Rahu-Ketu Shoot
Varun Sharma kicked off the conversation by reminiscing about their outdoor shoot for Rahu-Ketu in Manali. He described a memorable evening when the cast gathered around a bonfire outside their hotel. As Chunky Pandey arrived late from the set, the atmosphere transformed when the party upstairs began playing “So Gaya Yeh Jahaan.” Varun expressed how the moment evoked a wave of nostalgia, saying, “It felt like nostalgia on steroids.” This shared experience highlighted the strong bonds formed during their filming.
Chunky Pandey’s Insights on Tezaab
In response to Varun’s nostalgic reflection, Chunky Pandey opened up about the history of “So Gaya Yeh Jahaan.” He disclosed that the song was almost removed from Tezaab during the editing process. The original cut of the film was an extensive five hours long, and the team initially planned to release it in two parts. However, as the film was trimmed down to approximately three hours and fifty minutes, the song faced the risk of being cut due to its slower pace.
The director, N. Chandra, played a crucial role in preserving the song. Chunky recounted how Chandra stood firm against the decision to remove it, arguing that its absence would make the film feel too heavy and overwhelming for audiences. Thanks to his determination, “So Gaya Yeh Jahaan” remained a significant part of the film, contributing to its lasting impact.
The Legacy of Tezaab
Tezaab, released in 1988, is celebrated for its memorable music and performances. The film not only marked a turning point in Bollywood but also solidified the careers of its lead actors. The song “So Gaya Yeh Jahaan,” in particular, has become an anthem for many fans of the era. Chunky Pandey’s revelations during the festival shed light on the creative decisions that shaped this classic, reminding audiences of the intricate process behind filmmaking.
