Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Little Thomas’ Starring Gulshan Devaiah and Rasika Dugal Set for Theatrical Release
Where do babies come from? For seven-year-old Thomas, the answer is simple: his parents just need to kiss. This innocent premise drives “Little Thomas,” an upcoming feature produced by Anurag Kashyap and set to hit theaters nationwide on October 23. The film stars Gulshan Devaiah and Rasika Dugal, with child actor Hridansh Parekh playing the titular role.
A New Venture in Children’s Cinema
Directed by Kaushal Oza, “Little Thomas” is produced by Luminoso Pictures, Civic Studios, Good Bad Films, and Ranjan Singh’s Flip Films alongside Anurag Kashyap. This film marks Kashyap’s first venture into children’s cinema since his 2007 animated film, “Return of Hanuman.” The story is set in the vibrant backdrop of 1990s Goa and follows young Thomas, who longs for a little brother. When he learns that his parents need to kiss to have another child, he takes it upon himself to encourage them to rekindle their romance.
Gulshan Devaiah, who plays a key role in the film, described it as the “cutest” project he has been part of. He shared, “It’s a heartwarming story of a simple family from Goa and it’s been very fulfilling to do this film. Being a part of the amazing works built by Kaushal Oza and sharing the screen with Rasika Duggal has been a very memorable experience for me.”
A Unique Story for Children
Rasika Dugal expressed her excitement about the film’s release, emphasizing its sincerity. “It is a film which is committed to the soul of its story without resorting to unnecessary frills,” she said. Dugal also noted the rarity of films made for children that do not talk down to them. “I feel ‘Little Thomas’ fills that gap in a very lovely way — it’s a children’s film, but one that adults can enjoy just as much.”
Anushka Shah from Civic Studios added, “Little Thomas is a charming, warm and funny children’s film that answers the age-old question kids ask: ‘Where do babies come from?!’ As Civic Studios, we wanted to back this story because it answers an important question while filling a much-needed gap for high-quality children’s films in India!”
Behind the Scenes
Director Kaushal Oza shared that “Little Thomas” was inspired by his own childhood experiences. He remarked, “My team and I had a ball shooting it thanks to the infectious enthusiasm the kids brought on the set. And their chemistry shows on the screen. Thomas will make you smile, make you laugh, and even shed a tear or two.”
Producer Ranjan Singh emphasized the film’s innocence and fun. He stated, “It’s such an innocent and fun story of a boy and his adventures to find the answer for his one question. In an age of fast cuts and high-adrenaline films, this is a simple, sweet film which every family member can watch and should watch together.”
“Little Thomas” is set to release nationwide on October 23.
