Allu Arjun’s Raaka Set for Two-Part Release; Atlee Considers Major Shift for Rs. 800 Crore Epic
Allu Arjun and Atlee’s much-anticipated film, Raaka, is reportedly considering a split into two parts due to its expansive storyline. Sources close to the project indicate that the filmmakers are exploring this option as the production has exceeded the conventional three-hour runtime. With significant filming still ahead, the decision on whether to divide the film has not yet been finalized.
Production Challenges and Potential Two-Part Format
Raaka has been in production for over a year, and the footage accumulated so far has surpassed what can be realistically included in a single film. A source associated with the project shared with Bollywood Hungama, “Raaka has been in production for more than a year now, and the footage shot so far has grown far beyond what can realistically be accommodated within a conventional three-hour runtime. With at least four months of filming still pending, it has become practically impossible to fit the complete narrative into one film.” The source added that Atlee is still contemplating how best to structure the story, with a final decision expected only after filming concludes.
Allu Arjun and the cast have expressed their complete faith in Atlee’s vision. They are allowing him the necessary time to realize the ambitious scope of the project. Allu is reportedly committed to the film until December before he transitions to Lokesh Kanagaraj’s superhero film early next year. The principal production of this large-scale, VFX-heavy pan-India film is anticipated to continue until the first quarter of 2027, with a worldwide theatrical release targeted for the latter half of that year.
Financial Considerations and Creative Freedom
Sun Pictures, the production company behind Raaka, is said to be advocating for the two-part format. They believe this approach would not only provide greater creative freedom for Atlee but also enhance the film’s financial viability. The producers argue that splitting the film could alleviate the recovery pressure typically associated with a single large-budget release. However, this strategy carries inherent risks, as the success of the second part will largely depend on audience reception of the first installment.
A similar strategy was recently employed by Aditya Dhar and Ranveer Singh for Dhurandhar. Initially conceived as a single action-heavy thriller, the film was divided into two parts shortly before its release. The decision came after the filmmakers realized that nearly seven hours of footage could not be justified within a standard three-hour runtime. Backed by Jio Studios, this gamble proved successful, with both parts collectively grossing Rs. 2,004 crore net in India and Rs. 3,203 crore globally.

Raaka is being positioned as a groundbreaking visual spectacle that aims to redefine Indian cinema through advanced visual effects and high-concept world-building. Atlee is reportedly dedicated to delivering a memorable theatrical experience. The film boasts a star-studded ensemble cast, including Deepika Padukone, Mrunal Thakur, Rashmika Mandanna, and Janhvi Kapoor alongside Allu Arjun.
